    It's a common GOP symbol.

You mean the part where you preach about how government intervention is bad then turn around and support corporate welfare?

The "Don't Tread on Me" flag (Gadsden flag) is definitely not a GOP symbol. It's appropriated by anti-government types more than anyone else.

The IWW is a small part of the American left.

Wobblies are the most detestable faction of the left that exist in the US, hands down.

Regardless, you're bound to see a few pop up at any GOP rally.

You're also bound to see them at OWS protests as well. And since when do I support corporate welfare? That is the grossest thing you have ever said about me. Just because I don't like anarcho-communists doesn't mean I am all of a sudden some kind of corporate pawn.

I won't get into a discussion about why Wobblies are worth less than human excrement, as we've already had one of those, but my point remains: were it not for their (and other dirty socialist groups) association with the OWS 'movement' then people would be much less hostile towards it. The same thing would not be true about the Tea Party or libertarian affiliation with the 'movement.'

When did I reject Hayek and the free market? When I told you I didn't know who he was?

When you rejected the gold standard in favor of our current Keynesian monetary system.

The gold standard isn't exclusive to Hayek or the free market. Shaw is clearly not a supporter of Hayek as he doesn't know who the man even is, so it's not really effective to call him a hypocrite for not expressing the same views.

    That's a bit harsh, Kali.
I thought that flag was invented by the tea party.. Well, it's good to know the real story behind it.

    Note: Not attacking the post.

I don't watch the Occupy movement too closely, but I have heard nothing of these 'Wobblies'. Please cite a source for this information.

Wobblies are members of the IWW. It's been one of the more vocal commie groups and has hovered over the 'movement' from the start. If you need a source go check the older OWS thread, there are plenty.

Wobblies are members of the IWW, or 'Industrial Workers of the Worker', which is a mega union with members in tens of countries. The union owns loads of workers cooperatives, from farms to cafes/restaurants, and has been involved in pretty much every major protest since the start of the 20th century. It is made up almost entirely of Socialists, Anarchists, and Communists of various forms. Back in the mid 20th century, it's membership count was in the hundreds of thousands.

I actually just today had the chance to go into Philly and check out the Occupiers there, and I realized something. When you get a chance to go down to one of the bigger occupations, it really is pretty inspiring. I had to say to myself, "Wow, these people are really determined". Later, I also said to myself, "They are determined, but they are squandering it". My meaning is this: while actually going to an occupied area is quite inspiring, the whole scene is not very inspiring on TV or the Internet. This is extremely important, because the vast majority of people that the Occupiers are trying to gain sympathy with cannot go down and see the movement, and outside of being there, the occupation isn't really that effective.
