Maybe, it could help your phobia, by overcoming the giant ugly mutated piece of shit that is a giant spider.

Like in Fallout 3/NV, I could blow a spiders entire damned body to bits and I'd be like MUA HA HA HA I am winner.

Also, I played Limbo on my '360 and that spider part fuckin' startled me to hell.

Yeah ofcourse the games are becoming more realistic and immersive, that's a good thing. No Skyrim was not meant to be a horror game though some parts were obviously meant to be scary and immersive. You're not making alot of sense, if you really are so upset about spiders then don't play the game, anyone who is offended shouldn't play the game. The players who are afraid of spiders are not a big majority, and those who are still freaked out by them in a game are even less. They shouldn't take away the spiders for a guy who is afraid of spiders as little as they should take away parents for a guy who lost his parents or take away mummies for someone who is afraid of mummies.

Its kind of difficult for you to pick up in the middle of a conversation and say that im not making sense but anyways....EXACTLY as someone said before me, this is not JUST me saying that im afriad of spiders, for gods sake they already made a mod to get rid of them, so in turn if SO many people are afraid of them why should they be in games?

Because spiders are cool, make for good enemies and the people who are okay with them are in the majority.

Alright than that was the answer, of course both sides are alittle bias myself included but I disagree (obviously :p). I think they have been used too many times as enemies and I think game devs can be alittle more creative in making enemies.

Well, they don't play a big role in Skyrim and have been used about as much as for example bandits in games, I wouldn't say bandits are overused, would you?

One could make the arguement I guess, for me personally I find that if Bethesda was so good at not really having them in Oblivion and Morrowind than why in Skyrim. Granted in Oblibion they had those half spider half women things but those dont scare me as much as the real deal.

Large arachnids have been a staple for fantasy games and books. It's not because bethesda lost creativity it's because most fantasy stories have dragons, trolls, orcs, elves, giant insects and magic. Ask the father of modern fantasy Tokien, wait you can't because he's dead :( well better luck next time :D

I have bad arachnophobia too, however whenever I see a giant spider in a game like Skyrim, I take a deep breath, think about it for a few seconds, and say well I want to beat this level so in order to do that I have to kill what's in my way that is hostile. It takes some time but eventually I got over things like that and started attacking like a beast. However you will never see me befriend a real spider.

I have overcomed my arachnophobia in video games, The trick is to Kill them without any remorse there not real spiders so who says Mercy towards the beast is a Necessity?

I fear the Eel more than the Spider. The one in Mario 64 scared the shit out of me and I refused to get the Star by it. Instead I made my braver 10 year old cousin do it.

Thats all really interesting though, how 1) everyone has a different phobia and 2) how we each deal with it, I like the way MrUnclepeanuts said it, to just take a deep breath and move on, well thank you guys, finally beat the section with the frostbite spider and can move on :)

Alternatively, you can always chose to fight it in 3rd person. It sucks the immersion right out of the game, but the fear goes away.

Really? I feel more immersed when in 3rd person mode.

To each their own. Personally, I get bumped out of the immersion in the 3rd person. It is marginally better than in Oblivion, but watching from a distance doesn't work the immersion angle for me. In this particular case with the spiders, you will at least be far enough away from the spiders as not to see the details in their models, so the realism declines. In theory.

The only thing I don't like are the conversations in third person, you can't see the one you're talking to cause your char is in the way. Otherwise I'd probably play 3rd person most of the time, it's really well made and combat is easier when you can see what's happening imo.
