Dutch history isn't much more interesting either... We're an unimportant Germanic tribe during Roman times... Then were part or property of a bunch of other countries in the middle ages. However, we were able to defeat the Spanish in the 16th and 17th century and become slave owners ourselves, but then our role in the world got pretty much overtaken by the British and French... Belgium gained independence from us in the 1830's and from then on we pretty try to keep ourselves outside wars instead of siding with major powers...

Because it's completly badass. First we fight and win our independence against the British in the 1700s, establishing the founding base of all Democracy in the Western Hemisphere. Then we cut a bloody path across a continent and oblitherate the Mexicans, taking half their country.

Then we fight a giant Civil War to end Slavery, further proving the whole freedom thing. I somehow doubt the French of the British would've been willing to take 650,000 casualties to end Slavery if their countries had it.

Then, that Spanish Empire? We end it and annex the Philipeans.

Then we go to Europe and kick ass in World War I because Germany wont leave us alone.
Then we save the world from Fascism in World War II (and yes, the USSR/UK didn't have a prayer without our help).
Then we save the world from Stalinism in the Cold War.
And now we rule the whole damn World.
