*A guarantee of universal health care provided by the state in some form.
*Subsidized education for universities and other schooling.
*Government agencies that help prepare you for a career , brush up your resume/CV, position you into needing companies. Those without a job can be helped into one. (Here in Germany, it's called the Bundesagentur fuer Arbeit)
*The ability of trade unions to make up a significant portion of corporate boards, helping to be part of these companies, while also being able to represent workers voices directly to company heads.
*Support of a secular and multicultural society.
*Strong state support for public forms of media (television and radio) and the arts, though without ANY editorial or content interference, financed through public licenses.
*Welfare state with strong unemployment benefits.
*Limits on deregulation, particularly on utilities.
*A progressive tax system, taxing those who are wealthiest the most, and sparing those at the bottom.

I know you don't agree with me much politically, Kalalification, but I believe these give social democracy a socialist tint. It is a socialist idea that is part of the ideological family of socialism. However, I think it's the less extreme version of socialism, and the one that has been the most successful in the long-term.

Well, Communism is a form of Socialism, as is Anarchism. Social democracy was originally socialism, but they abandoned that a long time ago.

    I'm loved >.>

    Anywho...

What tendencies does everyone belong to? I know Lenin Cat's and you know mine(anarcho-communist). I'm kind of curious to see who's what here.

Also as an aside, I am a really weird anarchist warrior-monk psychomancer seeking Valhalla >.>

None of what you listed has anything to do with socialism. All of those policies are consistent with the capitalist model.

Right now, I'd call myself a libertarian Marxist. That could change soon though.

I have Zero confidence in Socialism of any form, until i see successful socialism (Thats why i am a social democrat), I would be Anarchist, but I prefer a government, I would be communist but I don't trust the system, so I am going with my gut and staying on the social democracy bandwagon.

This is as close as you'll get my friend, all that other nonsense is irrelevant. But still, while the unions may be on more equally grounds with the business owners, they still don't control the work place or claim collective ownership on the grounds of occupation rights.
And again, I still don't see why you want it to be socialist so bad. You'd effectively lose the social liberal base that allows social democracy to due so well in elections.

And what exactly is the capitalist model? Or do you really mean, the U.S. model?

Hahahah. Collective farms worked out so well in the Soviet Union. Not.

I am new to the thread and was wondering if someone could help me figure out what category I would fall into. I took the poll on politicalcompass.org and my standings are in my signature. Any help is much appreciated.

Edit: I know it is an opinion, but I want to know which one I am most likely to be.

For the record, Lenin is right. Poling numbers and popularity don't really matter considering were talking about abstract definitions not the theoretical plausibility of policy implementation.

Social democrats don't need to conform or incorporate traditional Marxists, they're two separate entities with a passing connection. If you're talking about vitality or ability to achieve their goals, obviously the more moderate group is going to be more popular, but that doesn't detract from the theory behind the other group
