Anyway, on the whole "wtf is wrong with Ronald!?" business, I will bring it up again at some later point. The forums could use some controversy.

I want to know more about this planet, does it have plate tectonics? Can it be inhabited by humans in the future? In what way is it similar to Earth? Does it have more land than water or vice verca? And does it have a Jar Jar Binks type spcies?

It's not one planet, it's several dozen. I think they said 48 out of the 700 examined were 99% probable for supporting life.

Simply because the Universe is nearly infinite, there must be at least 1 Earth-like planet. Even then, and keep in mind this comes from the Rare Earth book, we are assuming that DNA is the one and only way for life to exist. There could be ways we cannot even imagine for life to exist.

If it does we must destroy them. Never again will we relive that movie.

Like Kali said, there are more than 1 planet, and this particular planet is most likely a water world.

Arn't these planets like 600 light years away? So I guess if there is life on them we can just ignore it for a while. Or at least to the next E.T. movie comes out.

Back to the whole 'end all suffering'-thing, I have never heard anyone say that it is a good idea to end all life, but I do agree that you can never 100% avoid all suffering. You can, however, keep doing your best to keep suffering as little as possible.

There is life on other planets, or else there is alot of big empty space.

However i want no contact with the other lifeforms.

I wonder what would happen if we were to meet another sentient species but are less advanced then us. Would we put them into slavery or something else. It would be interesting to see an Alien Civil Rights Movement with an alien Martin Luther King Jr.

Care to elaborate, seeing as how you know so much about the topic?
