Today marks the 7oth Anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The next day President Franklin Delano Roosevelt would address congress.

Within an hour of the speech, Congress passed a formal declaration of war against Japan and officially brought the U.S. into World War II.

Best surprise attack ever launched. Anybody who still gets upset about Pearl Harbor is a silly person.

    Movie was awesome, too.

Yeah I think we already got them back 3 and a half years later when we dropped the a-bomb. It is sad though that some people still hold a grudge on the Japs.

Not really. When we fire-bombed Tokyo is considered the retaliation for Pearl Harbor, which I consider to be a fairly poor surprise attack. Not that it wasn't a surprise, but overall the attack wasn't terribly effective.

I have to agree it's really sad that some people still hold a grudge towards the Japanese.

I don't hold a grudge against the japanese for pearl harbor. They were practically brainwashed by that point.

If you look at the facts: After the war, which the US never intended to join anyway, they became the leader of the "free" world. And what does a Belgian waffle have to do with the Netherlands? You'd better say "clog", because that's Dutch, and a lot better to beat someone with...

I don't know why but I've always felt that Belgium and the Netherlands had a hate for each other. Maybe thats why I thought Belgian waffle.

Oh, nah, we don't really hate each other. It's just good matter of making jokes. (Belgians are stupid, we are greedy.) Here's a (very, very stupid) example:
Do you know why Belgians never peal a banana? Because they already know what's in it!

Might as well start this shit storm now

Did the government know about the attacks before hand and use them to justify going to war.

Man, we really showed them when we dropped like 5 bombs on their city.

Ya, which totally why they tried every possible thing they could to make the attacks ineffective and tried to negotiate with Japan.

Let's not do these conspiracy theories.

    lol no

The Americans knew an attack was imminent the second they pressed an embargo. Most of Japan's oil came from the USA, which is 80% of it. They also opposed Japan at it's every move, especially in China. That was basically a declaration of war itself.

It's hardly a conspiracy theory when the Americans intercepted quite a bit of information from the Japanese beforehand and dismissed it.
