That's the main reason why people dislike the monarchy... It's a waste of money...

Why not? You basically program people to believe a lie, which is absolutely disgusting.

Not if you (and presumably they) believe it to be true. In some ways, those who do bad things for their beliefs are more noble than those who do nothing. But I get your point, especially as it has so much evidence to back it up (that's not sarcastic, history feels like one long disastrous indoctrination after the other sometimes)

What lie? I am opposed to have a royal family, but that doesn't make them evil. And give me an example of that 'indoctrination'.

What evidence? I know the royal family was a family of dictators (in the Netherlands), but right know we are a constitutional monarchy, and the royal family has close to none influence at all. If you don't count the millions of euro's they waste every year.

I was never implying the Dutch were being indoctrinated by the Royal Family. I meant indoctrination in general.

I knew a guy at college who always kept bringing it up. I guess he hated Turkey for destroying Byzantium, along with his other most hated group, the Catholic Church.
I just meant that there are lots of examples of indoctrination being a bad thing, despite my argument being that it's not neccessarily bad.

Christianity and Islam are specifically damaging. I don't recall any huge conundrum over the Greek Pantheon, for example.
