So I was continuing to read "The Fall of Rome", and the author made an interesting point. He was arguing that if Arbogast had won the Roman Civil War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arbogast_(general))(http://www.history.com/topics/arbogast ), that the empire would not have fallen at all. In fact, he states that maybe the empire would have "frozen" in time. It might have become like the China of Europe.

At first I was skeptical of the author's opinion, but as I thought it over more and more, I have become a believer in his opinion more and more. The Empire was not fully in decline at the time of this Civil War. In fact, the army was still ten times better than what it was of the time of Caesar. So this could in fact be a decisive moment in the course the Roman Empire would take. What are your thoughts on the matter of this crucial moment in history.

By china of Europe do you mean like it would switch Dynasty every so often and the core would remain, and the history would be the same all throughout it?

But if the Europeans are like China, then there would be no Europeans going to Americas thus ending Japanese Isolationism, thus causing invasion.

Not entirely. I mean the Chinese did almost find North America. A Roman China might've done such a thing.

China actually did find North america, there is a pretty good book on it. Though the emperor went fuck it back to isolationism.

The only source of any of this is the Book itself, and I somehow doubt the Chinese circumnavigated the globe in 1421. We'd find a lot more reference of it in Chinese history and such if they actually did. Some would consider exploring the entire world to be a very critical thing. It's just a theory anyway.

"I just navigated and explored the entire fucking world.
I KNOW! I'll tell absolutely no one and then put the only written record in one, easily flammable, place."

Ugh. By China of Europe, he means it would be kind of frozen in time and isolated.

No he means that the Romans would discover the World in 1421 and then burn all the records of it because they're stupid and then some third party like the Indians would colonize the Americas.

However I'm going to be perfectly honest the late roman empires (I always liked the republic more) collapse is not my strong suit, though i did buy a couple books on its decline and its easy to find more info on it.
