Zombies are a plague that sole goal is to consume humanity. Would this virus ever hit us, it would spread like a wild fire if it could get in a major (international) population center. Zombie as a creature wont stop if you break its legs, or smash his face. It will come after you even if it means destroying his body in process. Zombies have no feelings including fear, self preservation or pain. The only way to stop it coming after you is to destroy its brain. There is no way to train them not to harm you.

Welcome to ultimate Zombie survival thread. In this thread goal is to show, report & discuss all about Zombie survival techniques, equipment, shelter etc. to prepare you from being a victim of a zombie horde.

We will be talking about similar zombies you see in The Walking Dead.

Before you post a single comment, I want address certain issues:

    - This is intended to be a serious discussion topic, thus separating it from previous ones.
    - All your plans have to be realistic on the matter of what YOU could and would do. I doubt many of us have access to nuclear weapons etc.
    - Do your research if needed. I'm looking for quality conversations here. You should rather take your time in posting, than trying to reply as fast as possible.
    - Lastly I hold a right to delete any and all off topic & non serious posts.

    Scenario:

You hear that there is a new virus discovered. Media reports the shit out of it and nobody cares. There are cases here and there. A day later media reports that few of the victims dies. Two days later you are at your home and a nerd that you are you sit at your computer, when your country issues an emergency state. It tells everyone to be calm yata yata yata... But as the nerd you are and with influence of the popular culture you instantly got a clue of whats going on. And this is where your plan begins.

Virus has hit all the major population centers in your country (and is spreading soon to others via planes etc.) and it has been mildly detected in nearest town to your place (unless you live in a major population center). That nearest town has to have population over 70 000 and virus has only been detected there, so it is not yet over run.

Take into account your nations military capabilities, readiness to deal with this threat and international reaction. Take into account logistics, infrastructure etc.

Also take into account on how much you can carry (Knife takes x amount of space/weight)

    Zombie survival plan:

Following is to help you develop your plan, feel free to modify it at will. (Copy/paste and fill)

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    STAGE 1: Fast action
At this stage you have not seen a single zombie yet. Now you have some time to prepare (Estimate that time by yourself based scenario notes above) General public is not sure of whats going on so you should have no shortage of supplies, tho some minor unrest is to be expected.

    Initial gear preparation:

    - Headwear
    - Clothing (UPPER)
    - Clothing (LOWER)
    - Carrying gear
    - Inventory

    - Primary weapon
    - Secondary weapon (If can carry)
    - Melee weapon (If can carry)

    Initial rations:

    - Food (Type, quantity, rationing per day)
    - H2O (Type, quantity, rationing per day)

    Initial shelter:

    - Location
    - Stronghold

    Other:

    STAGE 2: First contact
Virus has been detected in your home town. It starts with very few infected, but shortly spreads like a wildfire. Now you have limited access to supplies in stores, panic among the people, violanse and potential danger if going out.

    Plan of action:

    To do list:

    Estimated ration status:

    Estimated shelter status:

    Estimated gear status:

    Other:

STAGE 3: Cut off, global disaster
Your home town has been over run by now. With few(ish) survivors left you have to survive in day to day business. Government still trying to their best and still more or less present (depending on your nations capabilities) At the same time virus is taking over major population centers all around the world and events will be repeated there, that happened here.

    Plan of action:

    Estimated ratio status:

    Estimated shelter status:

    Estimated gear status:

    Optional-

    Scavenging trips:

STAGE 4: Survival of the fittest
By this point military is overwhelmed, cities across the world over run & governments gone. There is no authorities around. Now it is every man for himself with limited resources one might have.

    Long term survival plan:

    Other notes/ changes from previous:

    Here is some research material:

    ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE A- BOOK

Now thread description is finished and I shall proceed to replying to it:

    STAGE 1: Fast action
At this stage you have not seen a single zombie yet. Now you have some time to prepare (Estimate that time by yourself based scenario notes above) General public is not sure of whats going on so you should have no shortage of supplies, tho some minor unrest is to be expected.

    Initial gear preparation:

    Headwear:
    - BW Bandana that I have. Better than any caps, for it can be used in many ways such as covering your face, protection from cold and on wounds to stop blood loss. Sure I could use helmet, but they add to extra weight and limit your sight.

    Clothing (UPPER)
    - Hoodie. Warm, yet not too hot. Easy to move around in. I would also wear biking gloves that I have. They add some protection to my hands, yet its easy to use your fingers.

    Clothing (LOWER)
    - I'm going with my BW pants as they are not only loose -allowing mobility-, but also have insanely huge pockets, that will be crucial for me. I also have these jungle boots that will be superior in running both in urban areas and in forests. They wont fall off.

    Carrying gear
    - I have BW chest rig to carry all the little stuff and I use generic backpack as primary carrying pack. I also have water hydration carrier that I can slip in between back pack and chest rig.

    Inventory
    - I will be saving for a trip for better lands and I will use my home as temporary base of operations. Assuming that I have two days, before virus hits my place I will get from:

Home: Tools (saws, nails, axe...), fishing equipment, knife, cooking equipment, matches, lighter, binoculars, beer...

Local hardware store: metal pool, planks, generator, alternator, timing belt, sacks, sand, coal & additional tools...

    Primary weapon
    - Melee weapon bellow

    Secondary weapon (If can carry)
    - Rob gun store from near by town and get Glock 17 due to its high mag size. (If I have time)

    Melee weapon (If can carry)
    - Crowbar from hardware store. Light, huge killing potential, blunt, reach, durable and can be used in other ways than just smashing skulls.

    Initial rations:

Food (Type, quantity, rationing per day)
    - As much canned food and everything that doe not spoil, that I can get my hands on from grosary store. Should be enough for a month.

    - H2O (Type, quantity, rationing per day)

Allot of water, should be enough for a month or more.

    Initial shelter:

My home shall be my temporary base of operations, where I gather my stuff and organize.

    - Location
    Eastern Finland

Other: Preparations should not take more than few hours, a single day should be enough.

    STAGE 2: First contact
Virus has been detected in your home town. It starts with very few infected, but shortly spreads like a wildfire. Now you have limited access to supplies in stores, panic among the people, violanse and potential danger if going out.

    Plan of action:
Upon arriving in Turku area, we have estimated 20 000 islands from the coast there. Many of them are very small & have a cottage. I'm taking a random boat, get all stuff into the boat, leave car there just in case and go for search for a house from islands.

    To do list:
Everything should be done, before zombies reach my town. Get all the stuff in to the car and head to the west coast.

    Estimated ration status: Great

Estimated shelter status: Abandoned, moving to a new one

Estimated gear status: I left before zombies came, so nothing

    Other:
House on island has great advantages: I'm isolated from threats there, close to water, that will be my H20 & food supply.

After breaking in I start to settle in and thus construction begins:

I start off with water filtering & catching system. I dig a hole or make a "pool" with sack to contain the water. Water filter will be made similarly, only that it will be filled with layers of coal and sand to filter the water and filtered "pure" water will be leaked into a bucket. Thus I have endless supply of H2O.

Next project will be windmill for electricity. House has electric equipment already, but as power stations are likely to go down any day now I have to secure electricity for my survival.

I take car wheel and attach planks to it (like a wind mill) and stick on the roof with metal poll. Now I have something spinning now I can attach alternator with belt to it to charge generator, which provides me electricity.

Lastly I barricade myself in just in case.

    Sit tight, & enjoy

    Estimated ratio status:

As long as I'm getting fish I have no trouble

    Estimated shelter status: Not harmed

Estimated gear status: Hopefully not harmed

    Optional-

    Scavenging trips: No need, hopefully

STAGE 4: Survival of the fittest
By this point military is overwhelmed, cities across the world over run & governments gone. There is no authorities around. Now it is every man for himself with limited resources one might have.

Long term survival plan: Continue living, wait for news, observe

Other notes/ changes from previous: None that come into my mind right now

I live in Pennsylvania, in the Mid-Atlantic United States, just outside of Philly. This means that the climate includes oppressively hot, humid summers, and bitter cold winters. As such I will have cloths for both seasons.

    - Headwear: A baseball cap (summer)/A warm, hunting hat. (winter)
    - Clothing (UPPER): Short sleeve shirt and light jacket/Heavy sweater and jacket
    - Clothing (LOWER): Shorts and jeans/snow pants
    - Carrying gear: Mountaineering backpack (Bear Grylls style)
    - Inventory: First aid kit/canned food/blankets, etc.

    - Primary weapon: Semi-auto hunting rifle (more for hunting food than zombies)
    - Secondary weapon (If can carry): a 9mm pistol
    - Melee weapon (If can carry): an all-purpose knife (like the US Army has, not a Swiss-Army knife)

    Initial rations:

    - Food (Type, quantity, rationing per day): Canned, 10 lbs, 1 can a day on a good day
    - H2O (Type, quantity, rationing per day): Bottled, 2 gal, dependent on how close I am to a water source

    Initial shelter:

    - Location: a little west, close to the country-side but still near an urban area
    - Stronghold: The tallest building in the area, and or, something in a tree.

Other: Keep extra gas in the trunk of my car. Also I'd probably go to the nearest major military base.

    STAGE 2: First contact
Virus has been detected in your home town. It starts with very few infected, but shortly spreads like a wildfire. Now you have limited access to supplies in stores, panic among the people, violanse and potential danger if going out.

Plan of action: Get my gear, and try to round up family/friends. See what we can gather and then book it out of there.

    To do list:
    1. Raid local stores for supplies
    2. Load up
    3. Plan route to nearest military base with backup routes and locations
    4. Get the hell out of there.

Estimated ration status: Less then optimal, dependent on how many friends/family I get, how much we can take before leaving, and their level of preparedness.

Estimated shelter status: Fair. I live close enough to civilization to always have a building, but close enough to country-side to improvise if I need to.

Estimated gear status: Same as ration.

Plan of action: Make way to government strongholds, only together can we survive and push back the threat. I live in the US, so getting hands on military personnel shouldn't be hard.

Estimated ration status: In flux, traveling light means that scavenging really is demanded to survive.

Estimated shelter status: Stable, probably just moving from building to building until we reach a base.

Estimated gear status: Good, everything I got was durable.

Optional- Groups psychological status isn't spectacular, moving almost everyday is hard on us.

Scavenging trips: Every day if possible.

STAGE 4: Survival of the fittest
By this point military is overwhelmed, cities across the world over run & governments gone. There is no authorities around. Now it is every man for himself with limited resources one might have.

Long term survival plan: Tightrope. We need to be near enough civilization to effectively scavenge, but far enough not to run into a ton of zombies. However, going to the military helped, we're stocked with survival gear/weapons.

Other notes/ changes from previous: The US government still has active bases, just gonna sit back and wait for contact.

Actually the colder regions are fucked if zombies attack, Finland is the worst place to live during a zombie Apocalypse. http://zombie.wikia.com/wiki/World_War_Z

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    STAGE 1: Fast action

Based on current reports on the zombie mod, I can tell that the attack will be coming from New York city and coming straight down. Which based on human travel and walking distance, + on how crowded the streets will be I figure I have 24-48 hours to get everything ready for my grand plan, though its better to start sooner. I should also expect more people to travel North and wide spread riots and looting, which means I need to realizes I will be shooting Humans as well as Zombies.

    Initial gear preparation:

-Headwear: Without a doubt I will have a Paintball helmet/mask with me, the zombie blood will carry the virus and as such if it hits me, well I'm fucked. So this is perfect for me to cover my face.

    - Clothing (UPPER): Trench Coat on top of a basic Metallica t-shirt. Would also have gloves on

    - Clothing (LOWER): Tight Cargo pants, the pockets will come in handy later, and my Nazi combat boots.

    - Carrying gear: Belt, tight fitting bookbag that I can however get off with a moments notice, as well as anything I can fit in my Trench coat

    - Inventory: (Non weapons): Flashlight for sure, A Swiss army knife, something that uses communication that might still be around (Cell Phone will not be, so more then likely walkie talkies and or portable radios) A bunch of lighters and matches and lots and lots and lots of water, so much water.

    - Primary weapon: My own personal M14 with 7.62 MM Full metal jacket rounds so when that mother hits the zombie in the head, that zombie is going to die

    - Secondary weapon (If can carry): My father's Smith and Wesson m&p 9mm

    - Melee weapon (If can carry): I would find a way to tie down and carry both a crowbar and an Ax (Though a very lightweight ax)

    Initial rations:

    - Food (Type, quantity, rationing per day): I don't know really, Can goods/lunchables.
    - H2O (Type, quantity, rationing per day): You don't know how much fucking water I would take with me, I might bring Lemon or Lime flavoring.

Initial shelter: None, Mobile would try to pick up friends on the way to the destination. However they must accept i'm in charge and if i say jump then you fucking jump or else i put a bullet in your brain (Don't care if your giving me a blowjob or not, your going to die if you don't do as i say) also if you got bite, run out there and become bait why don't you.

    STAGE 2: First contact
Virus has been detected in your home town. It starts with very few infected, but shortly spreads like a wildfire. Now you have limited access to supplies in stores, panic among the people, violanse and potential danger if going out.

Plan of action: Travel to the nearest river boat yard, hope that George the boatman is still alive, and have him take us to Cuba. Then live in Cuba and Fight whatever zombies make it on the island.

    To do list:

Estimated ration status: Should be well, if not i can resort to eating people's pets.

Estimated shelter status: Shelter is mobile, it will take me about less then a week to reach George

    Estimated gear status: Awesome condition.

Plan of action: Arrive at George's place and have him take us to Cuba (If he is alive) and if not then find a way to navigate a boat, with said amount of friends who are still alive.

Estimated ratio status: Who cares I'm on the mother fucking boat.

Estimated shelter status: Never had a shelter.

Estimated gear status: Should be in good conditions.

    Optional-

Scavenging trips: Be silent, but be fast and run like a mother fucker. also watch out for cars.

STAGE 4: Survival of the fittest
By this point military is overwhelmed, cities across the world over run & governments gone. There is no authorities around. Now it is every man for himself with limited resources one might have.

By this point I'm here (See below) Fighting for the Cuban Military against pockets of zombies that won't get much of a hold on the island. and would you look at the company :)

    Immediate flaw in this thread.
Given that in most zombie scenarios (Including this one) the virus is spread in a similar manor to rabies. No it wouldn't.

So remember that time this one dog contracted rabies and then one month later there were only six dogs without rabies left in the US? No? That's because it didn't happen....

I hope you guys realize that if the zombies did all contract a rabies like virus, they would sooner eat each-other before they ate a fast moving and hard to get human.

    STAGE 1: Fast action

    Initial gear preparation:

-Headwear: Meh, I usually don't wear headgear when I'm doing tactical things, but I have a few baseball hats I suppose

    - Clothing (UPPER): Depending on season, I have plenty of outdoors oriented stuff for each climate though. Focus is on breathability for summer and keeping you warm while not causing you to sweat during the cold.

    - Clothing (LOWER): I have some 511 tactical pants that would work just dandy

    - Carrying gear: I keep a chest rig with 6 mag pouches, gps, water, and some other things on it, but I can adjust that to carry more mags in the event of a zombie outbreak. Also I have a dropdown leg holster for my pistol, and have a variety of bug out bags or longer term hiking bags to carry survival gear / more ammo

    - Inventory: (Non weapons): flash light , multi tool, gps, that pretty much covers most survival needs, although I would try and acquire some sort of fire starting device (I usually don't light fires when I go out camping, but in a zombie apocalypse scenario I'm sure I'd want a warm meal at some point in my life), sleeping bag, spare set of boots, lots of socks, maybe a spare set of clothes (always nice to have a dry set in case you fall into something), ropes, rappelling gear Most of this stuff I already keep loaded up in my hiking equipment so I should be good to go.

    - Primary weapon: Most likely I'd keep my built ar15 at my base area as I built it to be a long range riffle. I would carry my cheap ar15 which has a 1x3 variable optic on it.

    - Secondary weapon (If can carry): My walther ppk, although I would look to acquire some variation of a 1911 as I'm a better shot, and they usually have larger magazines

    - Melee weapon (If can carry): I have one of those giant Kbar knives as well as a small folding one I use to open cans and chop small trees and such

    Initial rations:

    - Food (Type, quantity, rationing per day): Compltetely unprepared here :(
    - H2O (Type, quantity, rationing per day): As much as I can scrounge up. I havea bunch of cammelback bladders, and room in my one pack for maybe 8-10 galloons.

Initial shelter: I would most likely try and hold up in my house until the initial wave of chaos was over. After that I'd most likely need to venture out to forage for food and supplies. It depends a lot on if I'm in Arizona or PA. In AZ I couldn't really leave the city because desert's aren't really known for survivability. I'd feel comfortable running off to the mountains in PA though.

Well, I live in Arizona and certainly don't want to be swarmed by mexican/redneck zombies.

    - Headwear: I have my slick black hair thank you, but I will bring a black bandana (Could be use a tourniquet)
    - Clothing (UPPER): Stretch leather jacket, and dark T shirt, pretty warm for my needs..
    - Clothing (LOWER): A pair of Black Dickies with those baggy cargo pockets ( Inventory buff + )
    - Carrying gear: My backpack from school ( Swiss army)
    - Inventory: A first aid kit from my mums work, 3 pen flashlights ( just laying around), Cans of Vienna sausage <3, a metal canteen tied on my backpack for water.

    - Primary weapon: Riot shotgun my uncle left at my house for some odd reason left me some ammo too.. slugs and assorted rounds for it turkey shot and buck shot as well..
    - Secondary weapon (If can carry): Can't carry anymore.
    - Melee weapon (If can carry): If I can I would bring my dull samurai sword that I bought from chinatown for like 20$ lol... Perhaps I could sharpen it?

    Initial rations:

    - Food Vienna sausage, perhaps one can a day, will have to scavenge soon!
    - H2O Metal canteen can be refilled and stay cold if left overnight, cold water can quench my thirst real well.. I can scrounge water easily in the desert land for all the homes have their own wells to the water table.

    Initial shelter:

    - Location: I would stay near my home in the country side, open desert with bushes barely any trees, Id say.. Good not perfect line of sight in my area
    - Stronghold: I live by the biggest nuclear plant in the USA ..cause of the virus? Or safe ground? But I will go over there since that is where everyone should/might go if not stay around current home.

Other: If I can I will take my Honda and whatever gas put extra things in it like my 22 with 1000 rounds for hunting.

    STAGE 2: First contact
Virus has been detected in your home town. It starts with very few infected, but shortly spreads like a wildfire. Now you have limited access to supplies in stores, panic among the people, violanse and potential danger if going out.

Plan of action: Grab my stuff, save family and friends that I can, and go in survival mode in current location until we must move to greener pastures.

    To do list:
    1. Scout and explore.
    2. Go on recourse gathering and missions.
    3. Congregate with others for morale.
    4. Rinse wash and repeat.

Estimated ration status: We will probably be fighting for food, but with leadership I am sure I can tame the bunch.

Estimated shelter status: Id say medium, many homes are scattered around like half a mile or couple acres apart, so new places come and go. We will probably be experts on breaking and clearing homes since they are too many, and are all built in the say general way (manufactured homes)

Estimated gear status: We will probably find new shit everywhere since you know in the country and in Arizona the guns laws are non existent so we be strapped.

Plan of action: Stay strong in our country land, by now we should have a fenced off property that we have salvaged from many other homes, I imagine it to be Fallout Brotherhood stylish. We have dug tunnels to the outskirts in which members will leave the compound whilst noise making objects lures the zombies to our walls, away from our tunnels

Estimated ration status: Probably bad since, I have mustered too many people probably.. North Korean Juche ration style implented!

Estimated shelter status: Good, Crude but intrinsic compound almost indestructible. Our helms deep flaw would probably be a drain where our bathrooms would be.. But ... I dunno..

Estimated gear status: Crude, weapons are probably worned, clothing raggy.

Scavenging trips: Is a must for our compound!

STAGE 4: Survival of the fittest
By this point military is overwhelmed, cities across the world over run & governments gone. There is no authorities around. Now it is every man for himself with limited resources one might have.

Long term survival plan: Even more harsh North Korean Juche style, eventually power grabs within compound. I would probably have to ditch the compound.

    End*
    Epilogue.
I might have mapped out this fictional survival a bit too much. But in reality if I was alone I would go hermit style and live in a secluded place and grow and hunt shit.

Not exactly what I was getting at. My point is that if their only means of infection is through physical contact, then chances are they would get put down rather quickly.

Not really. If hit in a major population center, one zombie in a subway can do allot of harm. Cops/other people wont kill these zombies on sight, that adds to the death toll etc. Also, as many people travel these days, chances are that some one that got virus is traveling thus making virus virtually unstoppable.

Also when you are talking about countries like USA, that have firm control over their territories it is easy to assume, that this would be put down fast. But in places like India it is unstoppable.

We live in the age of The War on Terror. Don't underestimate both local and federal government forces.

I assure you, countries like India would get that shit locked down in a heart beat. To hell with the costs.

But I'll humor this thread. Cuz hey, zombies amirite?
    STAGE 1: Fast action
At this stage you have not seen a single zombie yet. Now you have some time to prepare (Estimate that time by yourself based scenario notes above) General public is not sure of whats going on so you should have no shortage of supplies, tho some minor unrest is to be expected.

    Initial gear preparation:

    - Headwear I have a beanie. Pretty warm and easy to store when it isn't cold. And a bandanna I can wear on my face.
    - Clothing (UPPER) Got a couple of shirts to change in and out of. Plus my black hoodie. My biking gloves.
    - Clothing (LOWER) My most comfortable jeans. The boots my grandfather left me.
    - Carrying gear My belt and the backpack my cousin got from the recruiting center. (He gave it to me because he already has one.)
    - Inventory I have a multi-tool and a pocket knife in my room. Those will be coming with me. My grandfather's old police flashlight (Doubles as club.). Matches shouldn't be to hard to come by. A hatchet is a must for where I live.

    - Primary weapon I have a compact bow, but no arrows sadly. lrn2fletch I guess.
    - Melee weapon (If can carry) Crowbar

Initial rations: I live VARY close to farm land. And if all else fails then hunting, trapping, and fishing it doable where I live.

    - Food (Type, quantity, rationing per day) See above.
    - H2O (Type, quantity, rationing per day) Plenty of watering holes nearby.

Initial shelter: I'd basically be moving around the county as necessity demands. Should be fine as long as I keep to my wits and stay away from the one kinda-large population center.

    - Location Texas, Hill County
    - Stronghold None really

Other: None of the other stuff really matters as I'm pretty much set here after I make a few tweaks. (Edit: Should also note that I have a rather large stockpile of fireworks. Strip those down and I have gunpowder and fuse.)

Also you guys should see this:
