So, am I the only one who has ever heard of KaM? No one else ever played it? If you have, discuss here!

But for the ones who haven't: Knights and Merchants is a German RTS game from 1998 (a second campaign, Knights and Merchants: The Peasants Rebellion, was released in 2002) in which you control a medieval village that works kind of like a socialist society. You have slaves serfs which have to bring goods and resources from one place to another, you have laborers which have to build roads and buildings, and then you have people who work at specific buildings. Like woodcutters, who cut trees and plant new ones. Then you have carpenters which have to make planks out of the trunks, and the serfs take the planks to the store house, where it is stored 'till a laborer or another carpenter needs it. This way, you have many different chains which, in the end, all connect. I like the game especially for the fact that it is more realistic than most modern day games, and you really have that feeling of a mix between an RTS and a city builder. With most RTS games, you start the game, collect a few resources, and immediately start fighting. With KaM, you first build a nice empire before you can create a nice army.

The game is compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux (port), and MorphOS. It might not work with newer versions of these operating systems, but a mod/remake is being built by three fans to solve these issues and more bugs, and put in some new features. It's called Knights and Merchants Remake and you can freely install it if you have a copy of the game (legal or not legal *wink wink nudge nudge*). You can buy the game at Good Old Games or other websites. The Remake project is free to download here, but you can only install it if you have a copy of the game. The Remake also adds an online multiplayer option, enabling the possibility of playing against or with friends, hugely adding fun to the game. It adds multiple new, cool maps you can play. I don't want to advertise for the game, but...
    GET IT NOW!
I would really like to get a little KaM community on the forums.

Have I ever heard of Age of Empires II? What, do I really look like this noob? :p

But I can really recommend this game. Very easy to get it by less legal means, too, if you get what I mean. *hint hint* Shall I pm you a link?

EDIT: I forgot to post some of the great soundtrack:

It is really good, and has a pretty low learning curve. But if you don't like this type of RTS games, well, too bad. I don't want to sound whiny, but I'd still give it a try. It's a tiny game, so you'll get it downloaded in no time.

Download the remake! We should start a match right away.

Would be great to play against other people again.

It's a fun game. I think the first two games in the series were really good, but a bit overrated. Especially the third. Did you know that AoE 4 is being developed?
