Wait I am now hearing that this thing called ACTA is basically just as horrid as SOPA. I don't know how recent it is, but according to everyones favorite terrorists Anonymous it must be stopped. Sorry if my infomation is wrong.

From what I understand it's an international one passed by Europeans while they were busy scoffing at how unjust our government was for debating SOPA. Meanwhile they let their bill pass and SOPA falls by the wayside... Way to come out on top Europe

For the record none of those were decided in the US court system..... Carano was in Spain, where 20 years is the max sentence for any crime. In the US the minimum penalty is life in prison for first degree murder, and you could be sentenced to death under the right circumstances. Carano's case is also under appeals, so it's unclear if that's the final verdict.

The marine was tried under the US military's internal justice system. While I'm not too fond of the verdict, the fact that he was acquitted basically means he was innocent. I think it's a bit high and mighty of us to assume that based off an editorial piece we may have read, we can assume the facts of the case. Although here I'm pretty shocked he didn't do any jail time.

Finally, the MEGA thing is just a blatant lie. Not only has he not been sentenced to 50 years, the trial hasn't even started! Further, he hasn't even been extradited to the US for trial. For all we know, New Zealand is just going to hang onto him and either try him themselves or just let him go. This doesn't even mention the fact he's being charged with encouraging and paying people (we have emails from him to MEGA users offering cash in exchange for uploading copyrighted material) to illegally upload copyrighted material, and then fail to take that material down when the rightful owners of that material launch a complaint. If he was in trouble for sharing digital archives, the US gov't would be locking up Zuckerburg for sharing a archive of photos, or the heads of almost every other major site. MEGA was targeted for stealing $175 million dollars from the movie industry. Through the illegal distribution of copyrighted material, MEGA earned $175 million dollars, which is completely different from innocently "sharing" files.

    Nice sound byte though
