While they've been told for over two years that they need to change, and that the path that they are one could only lead to chaos in Greece and the possible collapse of the Eurozone, the Greek people are still vehemently against austerity measures. To be honest, if the Greek Parliament doesn't pass these measures, I don't know what could happen. I've bounced around ideas that range from collapse of the Eurozone to NATO intervention.

Yep and you think a brutal civil war (it's always brutal) is the only option? No offence but you are one sick fuck :)

Well, the entirety of the Eurozone more or less rests on the economic stability of Greece, which could drag the whole system down. The rest of the world would be economically devastated, so it might be plausible that, should Greece not pass austerity measures, NATO or some kind of EU coalition might try and seize control. I do think that it is unlikely, but plausible. That's all.

    Or their just stupid.

Kick the bitch out of the Eurozone, or just do the smart thing and declare Greece the sole property of the German state, although it would be interesting to see what happens say Germany collapsed. But still Greece debt situation is unrecoverable and with its increasingly aging population (+ all the youth getting killed in riots) that is not going anywhere anytime fast, Greece is a useless nation only used as a proxy against other powers like the Soviets or Turkish, the amount of money Greece has cost the EU is beyond enough and everyone is pulling out of the Greek banking sector to the point that the Eurozone might be able to kick Greece out.

Greece hasn't succeeded on it's own merits since antiquity.

Although this video will be better at explaining the greek situation to you.

You'd cause an implosion of living standards with the austerity measures now being imposed on Greece, more so then in other countries this is gonna be imposed on because of the particularities of Greece particularly in relation to the big bureaucracy, I'd say we make the people who caused the crisis in the first place pay for what they have done and get all the money they are now shipping away from Greece into Swiss bank accounts, arrest the bankers who caused the crisis as they did in Iceland and go even further and impound their property while still leaving something to guarantee their families having a decent standard of living, lower all the politicians and the top level bureaucrats wages to the average income of the people in that particular country and increase taxes for the richest people and the multinationals. You'll have your debts repayed in no time, but hey why would you do that if you can also just make the victims of the crisis pay?

I would LOL if the cradle of Democracy turned Communist.

In any case, sucks to be them. The only one in a position to bail out Greece and Italy is China apparently.

I find a NATO intervention [or any military intervention for that matter] unlikely. Bombing people and userping their leadership tends not to go well for people.
Add onto that the fact that it would send a message to smaller Eurozone countries that if they fail to manage their countries, its a causus belli to invade. People would either live in fear or break away like mad.
In the end, they would find themselves prefering that Greece had collapsed.

aww not this again..... has every thread to end in this?(i know you are not the one bringing it up)

IF greeece turns to communism they get thrown out of the eu(sorry eu and communism is impossible) and are broke in 1 week. also eu will feel betrayed and trade embargo them. maybe china will help them but is that really all that desirable? but that sounds so much better then austerity measures.... Also i doubt that people that root for greece to get communist realize how horrible a compleete default of a country means. police, doctors, firefighters etc. will not be payed so they don't show up for work, just imagine the chaos. And recovery after becoming communist will not happen, they would still have the same problems (no real industry, overblown government, overblown social programs etc.) they would be the same economicaly shitty country just with a new sign infront of the parliament.
