I've always admired the talented people at Bioware for what they've accomplished (Knights of the Old Republic, Baldur's Gate, Mass Effect) but it seems to me that they've fallen under the corporate influence of EA. For those of you who do not know, a certain DLC was leaked onto Xbox Live for Mass Effect 3. This DLC called "From Ashes" locked out (unless you have purchased the N7 Collector's Edition or the PC Digital Deluxe Edition) something that I find completely unacceptable. What this DLC adds is a Prothean squad member. (Read more at http://www.vg247.com/2012/02/21/mass-effect-3-from-ashes-dlc-spotted-on-xbox-live)

Anyone who has played a Mass Effect game before know that the Protheans are an integral part of the Mass Effect lore. For the developers to create content that should be part of the finished product and sell it off as DLC is simply outrageous. I was ultimately convinced of this by YouTube partner, TotalHalibut who uploaded a video titled "Why I think Bioware has gone too far with Mass Effect 3" ( ). He is a devoted Mass Effect fan who loved the series and I could hear the pain in his voice as he announced that he will not be buying Mass Effect 3. I hereby urge all of you to seriously consider boycotting Mass Effect 3 in the hope that EA will learn from their unethical business practices.

Yhea what are they thinking, are they trying to make as much money as possible? Thats absurd no company should ever do that. Get over it, DLC that should have been part of the game sucks but it's a good buisness strategy at it generates extra money and that is pretty much all game developers care about. The only reson a game developer wants you to enjoy a game is so you will buy the sequel and so more people will buy the game. They arn't doing it to better your experience out of the kindness of theire hearts. It's all about the money.

What an almost harsh tone, there is some Propley some companies that do it just to give out something there fan base will enjoy. your generalization all game developers as greedy assholes.

A few things I would like to say:
    • Day 1 DLC is far from new.
    • This was likely out of Bioware's control.
    • The boycott will be extremely insignificant. Not only will not very many people sign up, a huge proportion will play the game anyway. All you are doing is denying yourself a fantastic gaming experience.
    • Have your own opinions. Try not to allow other's to influence yours. TotalHalibut is very good at subtly doing this.
I don't approve at all of what EA/Bioware has done here. But these days, no company is as good as they purport. It's called reality, just grin and bear it I suppose.

I don't think it's necessary to do this for one freaking DLC, I mean come on man, it doesn't really matter. Atleast we don't see things from these series like one freaking DLC a month for the same shit you get on the launch version of the game, like CoD.

Well said, the entertainment industry is what we have, and it's garbage is what we must endure if we want some fun. And even then, it's your choice to make whether or not you want to buy a brand new game as compared to a legendary, amazing game like Rome: Total War.

Y'know, I once boycotted mcdonalds for a year. I was pretty proud of myself, but at the end of the day, nothing would have changed if there were a million of me doing the same thing.

In ten years we will be paying $20 a week subscription fees for single player games. That's the future for us.

the problem is, this game was developed before the final version was finished. EAxis purposefully cut this content out (WHICH IS VITAL TO THE FUCKING STORY) so they could make money off of it. there will no doubt be people saying "they owe you nothing, don't play if you don't like it", but they DO owe us, all of the funding for that game came from us, the consumers. i will not pay $100 AUSD when i know the americans are getting it far cheaper and that i'm just gonna get hit with $15 DLC. i'm sorry but i don't see why they should take our money and steal our wallets.

I'm not going to criticize anyone who makes the decision to boycott the game at all. I actually applaud the fact that those people even have the ability and determination. I disagree with BattalionOfRed in that I wholly believe that anyone who rationally chooses to boycott is fully justified. Separating and heavily monetizing integral game content is a disgrace.

But really, at the end of the day, I feel that there's not much I can do, and not buying the game would do little more than deny myself of the experience. The market power that large/successful game companies wield is astronomical. Not only are there no government regulations to prevent this, consumers have little alternative. EA is the only publisher of Mass Effect 3, and if we want the game, we have to play by their rules, like it or not. It's a sad situation.

I agree, boycotting the game is worthless.

We must pirate the shit out of it.

Part of the fun of modern gaming is that, not only is pirating games easy as shit, they're basically handing you justification to pirate it.

I'm not buying the game anyway, so does that mean I was cool before it got all mainstream?

I won't boycott the game, waiting too long for it already. However, this whole day 1 DLC thing is absolutely ridiculous, so I absolutely refuse to buy the DLC. I can just watch a Let's Play to see the content I miss.

Good thing I got the collector's edition pre-ordered.

Edit: If you got a new copy of Mass Effect 2 then you could've download a free DLC off the Cerberus Network(ME2 only) called Zaeed.
