While I believe this question is kind of redundant because it's clear that almost too a tee we will all say Caligula. Considering there is no greater paragon of moral virtue and no Emperor who was more concerned about the welfare and prosperity of his people.

First off he was the only Emperor that put Neptune in his place with his great conquests of Britain, after all Neptune was getting to uppity and needed to be put in his place.

Second he was the first Roman Emperor to bring true equality to Rome by promoting his horse to console. Did that horse vote in oppressive laws like previous consoles? Of course not, all in the genius of Caligula.

Third he completed a true miracle crossing the Bay of Baiae on horse back, and it's not like the people were starving at the time or anything.

Lastly he improved the aqueduct, what more do you need? I mean I haven't even mentioned his just and fair executions of the villains in Rome, or his virtuous marriages.

The only person I believe who will declare another emperor as their favourite is Matthew, I believe he will choose Hadrian as his favourite emperor for his very progressive policies towards the Jewish people.

Well my favorite emperors to learn about are Julius Caesar, Nero, and Caligula just because they had such crazy reigns. My favorite overall is Augustus. I know it is a little cliche, but he was one of history's greatest rulers so he's hard to hate. I love how he is the perfect balance of military skill and economic understanding.

Nero was clearly the greatest ever. His greatest achievement was when he bribed Olympic officials to approve his 12 horse chariot race contest in which he was obviously the only competitor. He still crashed and lost.

Seriously, my picks for the greatest would be the following, in no particular order: Marcus Aurelius, Trajan, Augustus, Aurelian, Vespasian.

My overall favorite is Trajan, he expanded the empire to it's furthest reaches and was an all around awesome ruler and great military leader, he conqured dacia and can claim to be one the few emperors with a succsesful campaign against the persians. would go into more detail but it's late and i have school.

But...but...he was a king, not an emperor!

Anyway, I just can't see how any of you can't realise the greatness of Emperor Otho, who ruled for the vast amount of time that is 4 months.

I think I remember Otho ruled a day over three months actually. Anyway, Gordian I became emperor jointly with his son, Gordian II. 21 days later Gordian II was killed and defeated in battle, and upon hearing the news Gordian I committed suicide. Fuck Augustus, these two were a class act, clearly the greatest ever.

Otho was one of the emperors of the Year of Four Emperors. There's a pretty awesome board game about this year called Nero. We used to play it during our Latin classes.

Well Stalin, lets not forget that Caligula also:
Conquered the ocean (literally, he ordered his army to attack it), turned the Senate into a brothel (so now the Senators wouldn't spend the state's money on their wives, unless they were paying the Emperor, and threw his lame uncle into the Tiber, advancing medical science by once and for all proving that lame people cannot swim.
