Now there have been times in history when you can say politicians have been worthless because they did not do much and that could have been in a time of peril and a time of glory. I would also like to say that do you think it is easy planning a bill, discussing its possible pass, setting a schedule for it, speaking about it for months, and then voting on it is easy. While I disagree with President Obama, I know he has hard job and we should respect that. I believe that a politician or anyone for that matter is worthless but I also believe that they are not limitless and every human should be treated the same respectfully.

I am well aware that we should give to the politicians of any country the respect due their station, for they have one of the toughest, most thankless jobs.

But neither should we be content to stand in awe of their efforts. In a Democracy, above all others, the people have the right, indeed, the obligation to demand of their politicians that they at least do their job adequately, if not well.

Recently, the politicians of the US have been preforming sub-par with the interests of the nation as seen in the eyes of their people. Parhaps they have earned some reprieve; some space for forgiveness of fault, but I, for one, do not see where they did nor how. Therefore, in the spirit of Democracy, it is that they should be replaced. It is that they have not only failed to represent their people, but also that they have begun to represent themselves, or even worse, the interests of third parties like big buisness or small political groups with large amounts of clout.

It is true that the US politicians of today are still reeling from the fallout of a decades-old drop in popularity, but that does not excuse their actions or lack thereof.

It is that at this crucial hour, that a leader or group of leaders, should emerge to lead the nation, not to have the people be forced to accept the current incompetence of those in power.

This seems like a pretty good spot to say it, because I've had this idea in my head for a couple of days now, but a lot of people equate America to the end of the Roman Empire, but I see it more as the end of the republic. What America might need is a Julius Caesar like leader to bring great reforms, and fix the country, and then revert back to a more effective democracy, like Caesar would have had he not been assassinated.

Of course I still have faith in the democratic system, that was just an idea that was floating through my head.

It'd be fine... but we already had a thread about comparing the US to the Roman Empire.

You are willing to read over five paragraphs of text and take at least fifteen minutes to craft a counter, but you are not willing to watch a ten minute news report?

What 1Historygenius fails to understand is that the value of the politicans doens't rely on their predecessors' success and failuress but how the current breed of politicans are handling the current problems they are obligated to fix as per their duty as politicans.

Politican Value is not a flat, one size fits all package. It is a fluxuating, constantly changing value that can soar one term and then plummet the next depending on how well they handle their PR and handle nationial problems. George Washington and "Teddy" Roosevelt have much higher values than do George Bush Jr. and James Buchanan

Hey you know where I live? A state called Wisconsin. That is all I need to show you that democracy works more than just elections, and if you do not know what is happening in the state I can tell you.

So you are saying that the politicians do nothing all day by wait for the next elections.
