Gender Equality: Only for those who fit on the gender binary, FUCK ALL WHO AREN'T GENDER NORMATIVE! Oh and you need a penis to be a boy and a vagina to be a girl. You all want women to have equal rights(actually many of you don't, many of you still support patriarchy on some level, those harming all genders, including men), but what about gender-queers, gender neutral individuals, other third genders, and trans-folk. Just a few months ago trans-folk where essentially BANNED from all major travel in Canada. Why? To fight terrorism, if your sex and gender conflict on a passport, you cant travel.
The "patriarchy" is a fairytail in 1st world countries. If you were talking about Iran or the saudis I could see where your coming from, but it's fairly clear that pretty much every western nation has equal gender rights. As for trans genders and such(how is one gender nuetral?), then yea I can sorta see what your talking about, they are not really widly accepted by much of society, but that comes with time, just like womens rights movement, and the civl rights movement. oh, and I have never heard of canada banning transgenedered from travelling(even if they did how would they enforce it?), could you provide sources?
how can you have no gender? Your sex is not your gender, you can have a penis and be a women. Gender is subjective nonsense based on shit like masculinity-femininity and other stuff. As for sources, heres one: http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2012/01/31/canada-air-travel-transgendered-community_n_1245598.html Ofc the patriarchy exists, women are seen as physically week and submissive, the reverse for men, its not as large as it used to be, but its still there.
Gender is not subjective nonsense, it has purpose called "reproduction". The purpose of gender is to ensure the continuation of our species. This is accomplised by having a someone with a penis(male), and someone with a vagina(female) mate and produce offspring, this happens with most other species around the world, so yea it's not just "subjective nonsense". back when we lived in tribal and nomadic societies, men were the hunsters and warriors because men are naturally stronger then women, and women took the role of caretakers because they are more naturally nuturing and careful then men are. Now that doesn't mean you have to fall in line with these rules, it's a completly personal choice, if your born male, but you don't want to be male, good for you, we happen to live in socitey that leaves that option open for you. And while this choice might be looked down upon by some now, that will change as time goes on. For example it would be a scandal if black man and a white women married in the 50's, but now people think of that as normal. Women are not seen as inferior in most of modern society, in the US, that only exists to any extent in the southern states, that to continues to shrink. And yea i agree that canadian law is stupid.
Did you know I still have male equipment despite me being a andygerous genderqueer? and I have a partner who has female equipment even though shes bi-gendered? I am perfectly capable of reproducing(other then I'm not willing and I doubt she's willing). Theres boys that have female equipment, and women that have male equipment, and sometimes the hormone therapy most of them go through doesn't fuck up there reproduction that badly and they can reproduce together. Physical differences dont amount to the amount of gender roles in society.
Whats your point? I was explaining were gender roles originally came from and why they are not "subjective nonsense", made up to opress people. I never said you had stick to gender roles to reproduce today, i was simply pointing out why we still have them as part of our culture. And as I said with time, people will gradually move away from them.
Oh the humanity! LeninCat you seriously need to come back to reality. You have a gender, no matter what your sexuality might be. The fact that a woman/man in some extraordinary cases have a penis/vagina is really just a wierd mutation, and is not the norm. You're so bundled up in your ideological/feminist talk, that you refuse to accept what otherwise is a sane argument, or bend it to make it seem sexist and wrong. On the topic I believe they should be banned, and the fact that we didn't intervene in Rwanda doesn't exclude us from making the right choice now.(yes I'm talking to you Kara, your argument is retarded*) *figuratively guys, don't start to freak out.
in hunter gather society, gender roles where nowhere as prevalent as today. @Warburg, I dont know what my gender is exactly, but I know I'm not 100% boy.
Take off your pants and look down. If you see a penis, that means your a male in 99.95% of the cases.(0.05% is for those wierd cases you're talking about)
Ah yea they where, it was a clearly defined line(in most cases there are few exeptions). Men where hunters and warriors, women where the gatherers and care takers of the children. And the fact that today society allows transgenders, lesbian, gays et cetera shows this. Back then it was seen as a requirment to produce offspring so the tribe could grow and thrive.
Regradless of how it started, can we atleast agree its a oppressive barrier in modern times? @Warburg Gender is far more complicated then that.
No, it's not, because your allowed in our society to be whatever sexuality you want, as long as its not hurting others.
Race Color Religion National origin Age Sex Familial status Disability status Veteran status Genetic information This is a list of all the of all the things you CAN'T discriminate based on in the US constitution (I'm gonna assume, probably erroneously but whatever, that most western nations have similar protections in place). Now, some would say that "sex" covers what Lenin is talking about, however sex is the GENETIC traits exhibited by an individual, essentially the presence of a penis/vagina/testicles/ovaries and any combination thereof. However, gender is defined as "a range of characteristics used to distinguish between males and females, particularly in the cases of men and women and the masculine and feminine attributes assigned to them. Depending on the context, the discriminating characteristics vary from sex to social role to gender identity", this means that it is possible for an organization/individual to discriminate based on BEHAVIORAL traits that someone may posses in relation to their gender. I'm pretty sure there are quite a few instances where men/women/transgender are discriminated against based on how "male" or "female" they act, and that should not be considered a minor nuisance in a modern society, just my .02$.
And I still think it is a minor nuisance. People are discriminated against all the time, and it's alright for an organization to "discriminate" based on behavior. Or in other words; if they don't like a person because of the way he/she acts then the don't have to hire him/her or they can fire him/her. NOW that doesn't mean they can fire a male because he acts like a woman, they need a valid reason(you can take it to court if you feel that you've been treated unjustly/wrong), like any other case where you fire a person(at least that's how it works in Denmark) Btw the definition of gender is actually: The state of being male or female(typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones)* But that's basically the same as your definition. *From Oxford dictionary
Yeah, I just used the Wikipedia definition cause I was already there for the list of characteristics, and while we disagree on how big of an issue it is, still good to see that you think it's unjust.
DUTY CALLS You are either a man, a woman or transgendered. You can't have a penis and be a woman, what the hell are you thinking? A man has a penis, a woman has a vagina, a tranny has switched around a bit. That is how it is. I won't have you dirty reds and your political correctness determining what gender people are. Women aren't seen as physically weak and dismissive in western society. In fact, in western society, women are treated as equals if not superior to men because of feminism. You have gender identity disorder and you need to seek professional help.
I think it's more important to focus on discrimination against color and religion atm, because they are being discriminated against a lot more than someone with a complex gender.* The are even discriminated against on government level.** People with a complex gender have the same rights(in Denmark) as people with regular gender roles. *Yeah, I'm not sure what to call it, but you know what I mean. **See Arizona in the US. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arizona_SB_1070)
Yea I said this my self, society takes time to accept new things, like civil rights movment it all happens with time. So It's is a minor problem because their is nothing that can be done about it(plus I don't really by into lenincats nuetral gender nonsense, I don't even think he knows what that means and is just repeating feminst rhetoric). Act how you wanna act if you want a sex change get it, if you want to be "andygerous genderqueer"(whatever that is) do it , as long as your not hurting others it is your rights to do so and I don't really see the need to invent new genders. Those rights are protected and that is all that can be done, social exceptance comes with time.
