I never fucking said it was something to be ashamed of, but instead of ranting and raving about Christianity stopping sexuality for so many years, do something to change it, contact your local politician, contact friends and have them contact friends and try and have the laws changed. Do you think I agree that gay people can't get married? No, I do not, but there has always been bullshit when it comes to laws, in Ancient Egypt it was okay for the pharaoh's family to commit incest though if common people committed the act they could be killed or exiled. I've seen you talk all about sexuality when it comes to religion, but what about the repression of women thanks to religion, women used to be worshiped because they could do something men could not, give life, by giving birth to a child. But religion changed all that. But how many religious women do you see, even Catholic women who are told not to use birth control by their religion yet over 50% of them do. They have learned like most non-fanatical religious people do, you have to take the bible and other works with a grain of salt. Do you believe Jonah actually got eaten by a whale? That Moses led thousands of Jews across the Red Sea? That Moses even opened the Red Sea to begin with? That the earth is only 4,000 years old? You have to learn to respect the message of religion, and realize it was written by man that put their own spin and opinions into their writings. Like Paul's 7 letters to the church's in the area, known as Revelations. The Red 7 headed dragon (Satan) with 7 horns on each head, do you think it is coincidence that he chose the number 7 so much, such as the 7 scrolls, etc. At that time the greatest enemy of Christians and who owned most of the known world was who? The Romans, whose "color" was RED, and Rome was founded on 7 hills, by the brother's Romulus and Remus. It is up to each individual to choose what they believe is right and wrong, their are 613 laws in the bible, not just the 10 that are popular in front of Court Houses, and other Government buildings that pisses people off so much. Though most religious people do not know that. Orthodox Jews believe they should live by all 613 laws, that is faith, there are Muslims that can recite the entire Qur'an from front to back by age 12; THAT is FAITH. People that quote a religious text and take it out of context or use it for their own uses are not religious but hypocrites, so again you blame all for the actions of a few. It's like blaming all white people from 6 centuries ago to now that they are at fault for Slavery, for repressing all other colors, it's like blaming every German for what happened under NAZI Rule. LONG STORY short, lol, that was the point I'm trying to make. Look forward to your reply.
Interestingly enough, that is the same argument that Saint Thomas Aquinas used in the Summa Theologica to prove God. What difference would it make who wrote the thing. If it were divinely inspired then the hand that controlled the writing utensil would be essentially irrelevant to the whole process. This is why you, in particular, will never convince anyone of anything in particular. A few pages after you wrote this Stalin made a comment that has run along similar lines to yours, and yet for some reason, I find myself not needing to just argue back, rather then having just a discussion. And pedantry was a common practice. Just saying.
So? This guy, is just one guy. That doesn't automatically make everyone agree with him. You might be a socialist, but do you agree with every little thing another socialist says? Of course not, that's almost impossible. We are human beings, and we do fall into categories of people that generally have the same opinions on the majority of the subjects. But there are exceptions in everything. Not every Christian believes that the Bible has been written with some divine help. Most regular Christians actually believe that the Bible was written by normal people, with their own opinions.
Ah, yes, I get what you're coming from, it's "The theory of gravity" rather than "Gravity is a theory", am I correct? Then it seems like a lot more awesome people would be in Hell. Well, the Roman religion didn't do that much of a bad job. Vergilius described it quite nicely, and I think Homeros gave a similar description earlier on. The Underworld seemed like quite an interesting place to walk around, I must say. Overall, though, I must agree with your post. When I read the paragraph on the historical inevitability, it made me think about several articles and sayings I read about how religion would form completely differently if civilization (but not humanity) were to be wiped out.
There is not a shred of evidence that it actually was devinely inspired, so there is no point for you to repeatedly bring it up I couldn't care less if I convince anyone. I state my opinion and make my argument, while beeing amused by the absence in logic of christian arguments I post here to entertain myself really. Compare it to observing primates in a zoo. Yeah, that works.... @ Stalin A major factor for the massive spread of christianity in the Empire was the influx of other "salvationist" religions, like the cult of Mithra, before the appearence of christianity. It paved the way so to speak, but you are right, Christianity sold the most attractive product in that regard.
That was supposed to be a compliment but ok. :'-(. I was just making that argument that if it was written with divine assistance whoever wrote it would be irrelevant, but not that it actually was written with divine assistance. I am not sure what evidence you could even expect to find that meet your standards. I am sure that there are other texts that say the Bible is divinely inspired, but they all are most likely written by Christian scholars and the like, making them inadmissible.
Absolutely correct. And that is my point... I wrote a book btw, after a vision from the allmighty deity Bob. Jahwe is his little brother, who was drunk and dictated the bible, fun times. I am here to set the record straight. So, replace your bibles, I got the new versions, called boble. And you know its true, because the book says so!
While that is a possibility, and I have no way to disprove that 100%, but your sarcasm and previous points of view lead me to believe that you are lying in an attempt to point out a flaw in the idea of divine inspiration. In actuality you help me by demonstrating how one cannot truly know what went on with the writers of the Bible two thousand yeas ago, which makes this whole argument pointless.
So you are saying, you trust a book where you do not know the author, and all we know about it that those who wrote it were uneducated 1st Century peasents who watched sheep for a living. But you wont trust me, a person you actually knows exists and is much higher educated with a master in ancient history? Speaking of Bullshit!
I believe Revelations was written by one of the later Johns. And to greatmustachio, I don't care what you say or if you are trying to say God doesn't exist, but what you said is a low blow and is not right. I don't care if your arguing God doesn't exist, but please don't be a dick.
Point to one part from me that was a lie, and I will apologize for it... I was called an asshole in this thread befor, and I personally dont give a shit
That's hardly a lie, now is it? Seeing as for now it's impossible to validate the existence of God, saying He does or doesn't exist is neither a lie. Don't forget though that you're calling him out on being insulting towards your beliefs, something of which you're guilty of yourself.
That is why I didn't really want to post it because the only thing atheists do is deny, deny, deny, and call you stupid for saying God exists.
You are saying he lied by saying God does not exist. It is not a lie. It's not the 100% truth either, but its not a lie. I'm gonna go with what Stalin said and say we could just as easily be arguing the existence of Mars and Jupiter.
And how is that any different from denying denying denying that evolution is true and telling people they're surely going to Hell?
That was KoreanPoet, I believe everyone can get into Heaven if they live a moral life. I have not told anyone directly "Go to Hell," I may have inquired you might go to Hell for your actions. You know what, I do believe in Evolution but I believe God caused it.
You were generalising atheists...I must admit, it's not as stupid as the "blargh blargh atheists are stupid baby eating gay lovers who have no morals blargh blargh", but it still doesn't make for a good argument.
