Based on what we know about him I find that very unlikely. He's a family man and a supposed good solider gone bad. After some time in a harsh prison environment away from everyone he cares about I'm sure he'll come to regret it. If we were talking about Hitler or Ted Bundy I'd agree that we should just kill him because they wouldn't learn a damn thing.

    I donno.
Family or not, he DID kill some 16 people.

And why are we doing thsi for his benefit?
Why not make him an example so everyone can benefit?

He was drunk and on a tour of duty he didn't want to be on. I think this had more to do with frustration and anger then a love for killing innocent civilians. Not that it makes it right or less wrong. Also this isn't for his benefit this is for his punishment. The point is to make him suffer for his crime. I don't see how killing him is for my benefit. What I do I learn or get out of his execution? Nothing.

    A lesson.
A lesson in crime and punishment.
You learn to fear breaking the law.

I don't need to see people die to obey the law. I have morals for that.

ELIGIBLE. Hes not gonna get it. Your eligible for the death penalty on most civilian courts too. But it is rarely given.

Most people do. Besides killing people isn't going to stop anyone from breaking the law.

"Death solves all problems... no man, no problem."

In any case, I have no interest in wasting my money putting people behind bars for crimes that they cannot repent from. Its a waste of resources and energy.

I think were going to have to agree to disagree because I see a pattern forming.

Only about half of the states have the death penalty and within that it's only eligible for first degree murder. It varies by state (and by county because it costs a lot of prosecute a capital case so poorer counties simply can't afford it) on who enforces the death penalty, but in Arizona if you murder someone or commit felony murder (if someone dies during or in flight from you committing a felony) you're almost certain to get the death penalty.

Yes, but that doesn't mean your definitely going to get it. And I can't remember the last time a US service member was sentenced to death for anything.

I am sick of you people. All you talk about here is how to make this guy suffer as much as possible. He is still human!!! He cannot be just treated as some animal. Saying that he needs to suffer as much as possible is sickening to me.

I agree. If the death penalty is given, I would like for it to be lethal injection. That's the least painless in my opinion.

its not actually. they use a barbituate for madically induced coma, so the inmate wont be consious when his lungs stop working. the people who administer this drug are not medically trained.

there was a study where they found out that (43%) of executed inmates had concentrations consistent with awareness. This led to the conclusion that there was a substantial probability that some of the inmates were aware and suffered extreme pain and distress during execution.

firing squad is much more humane, you are dead before you hit the ground
instead of seconds or minutes of extreme pain wether its the electric chair or lethal injection.

I was not aware. That's absolutely horrible. The pain of not being able to breath is considered one of the most extreme in the world...
