I think that having so many random candidates (such as myself, I admit) in the Tribune Elections is taking many votes out of play that could have been vital somewhere else. Some candidates have gotten less than 3 votes (once again, myself) are taking votes from an election where an extra 2 votes could mean a lot. The forums in my opinion are not really big enough to have like 10 candidates. So, I want to suggest that for the next election, we continue with sending our campaign speeches to a mod. Then, a mod will make a poll including all these members. BUT, this poll will be similar to the primaries, in that lets say the top 5 in the poll will go on to the real elections, which will then decide our tribunes. I just think this will help the elections be more decisive, and be fairer to people who feel they wasted their vote on a candidate early on, ESPECIALLY when they can't change elections.

I like this. Our presets for candidacy are way too lenient.

You are essentially suggesting a run-off election.

Speaking of polls, polls really help suggestions like this. Like a yes/no poll. Really helps judge interest easier.

This is something that ought to change in my eyes, you people are the moderators, Stalin chose you because he trusted your judgement. Take the initiative, make decisions, don't wait for a flawed "democracy" to make a half-ass decision.

While I agree that is the way it should be, every time the mods have done that in the past, there has been a shitstorm to some level.

People who create shitstorms need to be silenced. The motto for a functioning web forum is "You have no rights, play nice".
This is a site about gaming, not whatever the fuck it's turned into.

I think it would be better if we did something similar to how the NDP elected their leader. We do multiple rounds of voting, on the first ballot everyone below say 10% would drop off. We would then hold a second ballot were the supporters of any candidate who dropped off have the chance to vote for their second choice. Then on the 3rd ballot everyone below 20% of the vote would drop off and those supports could vote for their second or third choice. until we get two people with, say 35% of the vote.

I agree. Unfortunately, the moderators are very restricted in their ability to go about things. You have to break the rules in exactly the right for the moderators to be able to take action against you, and there tens of easily exploitable loopholes in the rules.

Just got me an idea, actually. I'll put it to you in PM, shaw.

I like this idea. If every vote lasted two days, it could be over in less than a week. And the elections should be announced a week in advance, so potential candidates can gauge their support and organize campaigns.

We're considering something regarding that. I'm not going to go into much detail as of now.

When me and fey went over election this was brought up, I requested 5 nominations rather then three but primaries sound so much cooler.

I honestly thought the old system was fine and reasonably effecient

It was hard to keep track of what was going on when incompetent fools nominated thirty people in a row.

I think Mosh's idea is the best, because it seems effective (enough) yet simple. Stalin's idea sounds great, but good luck organizing three or four separate polls where only certain people are allowed to vote in certain ones and people are having to decide first, second and third choices, all without drama. We're choosing members who will influence an internet let's player's forum, not electing the supreme emperor of the universe.

Keep the first round like it is now, and the next round essentially have a run-off vote of the top three or four candidates, whichever is most suitable.

I think that's a good idea but just have one round of threshold voting of say 10%. Multiple rounds might be unnecessarily bureaucratic for a forum of this size.

I'm up for a primary, and it's not really like it would be that much work to make more threads. That's like a 10 second job.

If this is implemented for the next election I'll be there :)

But whenever someone takes initiative, nobody will be interested, everyone will complain, or we'll get a shitstorm for no reason.

What do you think we're doing up there in the Mod's Corner? We're working on it all the time, but whenever we actually do something which people find "unjustified", a bigger shitstorm will come up, destroying everything we've accomplished.

    Epic triple post.

Anyway, the old system was horribly ineffective. This one needs more tweaking, and most of the problems are due to me. I made mistakes, therefor making it unclear what to do. However, next time, it'll be better.

One round would be good. I do like the idea, though. I think 10% would be a good limit. I'll work on something.

We also should make the votation like a pop-up, meaning if you haven't voted yet and we are in "election times", when you enter the site (as a member) you have to vote. This way there will be more votes; although I think in that case we should have a "none of the above" option.
