So I was thinking about this in class when we talked about this topic.
Lots of post comm. nations have started to go downhill economically after the changes of system.
Could there be a chance that they would still exist in today's world as stable countries?

Didn't the eastern bloc go down along with the USSR?

Yes they did becouse the USSR didn't have much influence over them when they were too busy with their own mess.

The eastern bloc fell apart in 1989 to the early 90's.

I think that the Eastern Bloc would have simply continued to be at odds with the west. The communist nations would have not fallen. But I see no way the Eastern Bloc (pretty much all Soviet puppets anyways) could have survived after the Soviets fell. It would, however, be interesting to see how Yugoslavia would have fared if Tito had been able to choose a powerful successor to continue his policies. Because Tito was an awesome leader.

Considering that the eastern block does really well since most of them joined the eu, i can't imagine them oposing the west. The people there where pretty much fed up, heck to this day most of eastern europe has a pasionate disliking against the russians. As for genereal mosh bringing the point up about yugoslavia, it couldn't have ben worse if tito could appoint a successor. Because what happened in yugoslavia was pretty much the worst case.

Yeah, you can't get much worse than a 6 way civil war, followed by genocide. And the worst part is, thats something you expect from Africa, not a fairly successful European country.

I think if they would be still around in this age by some marvel they would be like Cuba nowadays,
not really putting pressure on the west but still managing to do their own stuff.

But what if the eastern bloc would make it's own EU kinda like Comecon?

The Eastern Bloc having its own EU? It would probably be created almost instantly in order to survive after the fall of the USSR. And then it would be a major competitor to the Western EU.

Probably not. The east was similarly to east germany so far behind in every thing economicaly. Without the help of the EU most of this countries would still be 2nd or 3rd rate countries without anykind of economical power. The EU spent billions into developement of this countries to bring them up to speed. Obviously a whise choice since they start to carry their own wight, contrary to the southern states (spain, portugal, greece and soon Italy). I rather see more countries like the eastern in the EU then all of them.

Probably not, the people allready rebelled against the socialist regimes multiple times, the only thing keeping them socialist where russian t54-55 (or similar). Anyhow I seriously doubt history would have taken anykind of different route.
