I hear there's a few stretches of desert that even the mexicans won't touch! Perfect relocation.

India! We will move all the Native Americans to India so we can finally call them Injuns and not feel racist!

Is there rally a point? Granting their reservation independance(they already have tribal sovereignty) won't really change their position, they still will have all the same problems with drugs alcohol and crime that they do now. So what will this solve?

Moral victory? Feeling like they're in control? And I don't think people will forget a nation being developed in the middle of their own country, this will have to generate some attention.

They'll gain support, other Native Americans will gain support, and we just might see another civil rights movement (well not just like that, but you know). Whether or not this happens, I don't see any harm in letting them have their way.

I somehow doubt this will happen. And plus if they are granted independce from the US, how will a civil rights protest in america help them if they are no longer part of the union.

The American governments wouldn't have any justifications for messing up the natives' shit anymore.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the last time they did that in the 70's?
Edit: If forget what it's called, but a group of indians had a stand off with the FBI.

There are far more Native Americans that could take part in a movement (not that they aren't already).

New York State is always trying to meddle in the natives' affairs by imposing taxes on them and the natives always respond by threatening to shut down parts of the thruway that run through their territory. Of course there are also the casinos and cheap gas and tobacco (tobacco taxes are so high in new york that most people buy their tobaco in bulk from the reservations and gas stations are suffering).

    Movement to accomlish what?
@shaw I would not call that really call trying to tax them "messing with the native's shit", and if the tobbaco and gas prices are so low, then the state attmepts to tax them can't be that effective, so what's the big deal?

So you want to grant these guys independace, to jumpstart a movement whoes goal would be to improve living conditions on other reservations? I have a problem with this, for the government to improve living conditions, they would have to increase controll over reservations, which would limit their independace even further.

This is an unbelievably stupid idea.

But what's amazing is that people make comments like this to support it:

People also make comments about the right to self-determination. I presume you think that's stupid too? Like international law in general?

Sure, put it to a vote. See how much support their proposal gets.

I excluded those arguments because they are not inherently stupid or wrong. If the majority of a population does not consent to their government, they have the right to get rid of that government and the justification to go their own way.

But that's not what people are saying. People are saying that we have an obligation to treat this minority differently now because our ancestors did bad things to their ancestors, or that "they were here first".
