The Golden Age of the Ottoman Empire

The Greek part certainly was. The Turks even admitted it. Even so just because it wasn't about religion doesn't make it tolerant. Last time I checked killing 2-4 million people on purpose in a span 30 years is about as intolerant as you can get.

See Caesar with the gaul and Germanic tribes, or any other group like that.

Killing 2-4 million of them is not pretty tolerant. It's completely intolerant. Whether it was for religious reasons or not. Also notice how none of them were Islamic. Kind of sketchy.

HOWEVER, this happened only after the Young Turks came to power. I do not consider that part of the golden age of the Ottoman Empire. That's why I named this thread the GOLDEN AGE because the Young Turks were most certainly not part of their golden age. They did horrible things, but they are not representative of the entire span of Ottoman History. That's like saying Bismark is the same as the Nazis.

I don't ever remember saying any different. I just thought it was a little sketchy that only Christians were killed. But yes that was at the end of the empire and not a representation of the majority of their reign but that doesn't mean we can just gloss over it and say that the Ottoman empire was some perfect tolerant state. Because it wasn't. Only more tolerant then most empires of the time. Which is good and I applaud them for that. That's all I'm saying.

What I'm saying is it does in fact matter when, and that besides the last (30 years?) of the empire, the entire thing was pretty tolerant and embracing of new ideals. They were also for a time much more advanced than the Europeans, then they became more and more conservative.
