    If I call someone autistic, I am not insulting on the grounds that they actually have autism, or that I think they do, but rather, they are acting in a manner similar to someone with autism. Whether you like it or not, it is a disorder, and it is objectively bad. If someone were to fail to see something very obvious, you might call them blind. This is similar.
    Of course, the term is also used in a much more broad manner, basically signifying anything I don't like, and whether that offends you or not, is entirely irrelevant. It does not matter one bit.

    Does anyone honestly believe that going around calling people autistic isn't to be considered insulting?

    Anyway, the deed is done and no longer does the modship tolerate calling someone autistic as a clear insult. Really this can only end in two different types of bans. A ban on using such words in such contexts, or a ban of people who use them. Either is fine with me.

    Man I remember just recently GeneralofCarthage started insulting somebody and then said "no offense" at the end of it expecting everything to just go away. But instead, everybody hounded for it. But now you call someone autistic and then try to say you are not trying to insult them (which is practically the same as saying no offense) and you just want it to go away?

    Nope, it came about maybe the week before this thread was posted as a result of a bunch of users spaming insults under the justifiction "it can't be an insult of it's true". I was away from the site at the time so I don't remember the particularities of the debate, but it's a very new rule.
