This kind of thing is just as bad as what he's saying. People are individuals and traits like personality, intelligence, and work ethic are determined by their individual experiences. East Asians are not more intelligent than white people, nor do they have better work ethic. Cultures are equally as impotent as races in determining those kind of characteristics.

Test bias explains the racial intelligence gap considerably better than 'cultural differences' and we don't even need to make sweeping statements about people based on their nationality or racial heritage in order to accept it.

I don't usually post in the Coffee House because everyone always loses here, so I'm going to leave what I said where it is.

In Outliers Gladwell does a much better job of explaining it than I do, so I would recommend reading the chapter about this sort of thing to better get my point.

It wasn't meant to be a sweeping generalization. It simply explains why stereotypes like, "Asians are better at math" exist.
I suppose the better statement would be, "People who think in Chinese are better at math".

While I don't accept the explanation offered by your source as objective fact, my primary issue with your post was that it was made right next to Imperial.

Personally, I don't like a lot of the things Gladwell says in the book, but a lot of it makes sense, in particular, that chapter.
I don't see it as fact, but it's the most reasonable explanation considering just about the only other one is the idea that Japanese are a superior group.

I agree these traits are a result of evolution but that still doesn't change the fact that there is a difference between the races. People are so afraid to discuss these differences. Take Jimmy the greek. He was a sports announcer who actually got fired for praising the black races athletic ability just because he pointed out that negroes have muscles that whites dont.

In todays PC culture you cant have a frank and honest discussion on race without being labelled a racist. People say there hasnt been any science to back this up in 50 years but do you truly believe the government would allow a study proving the fact we have seperate races with different weaknesses and strengths?

Racism simply means discrimination on the basis of race. In other words, acknowledging concrete differences between races. Or rather, recognizing concrete ontological differences between races. If you think race means anything more than the baseless categorization of people based on random phenotypic expression, then you are a racist.

This, for instance, is racism.

Ok, let me humor your argument for a moment.
Let me ask you this: Are there enough differences in human genes to justify racism?

There is a reason government's don't sponsor Scientific Racism. Besides the obvious reasons. It simply isn't scientific. All the perceived differences between the races are largely a product of upbringing and education. Why are Asian people "smarter" then other people (which they aren't), because Asian countries have a far superior education system then most other countries. There is no gene that makes Asian people smarter. It's complete nonsense. Why are black people perceived to be better at sports then other races. Because unfortunately they don't get the best education and don't have the same opportunities as other "races" when it comes to academics. So they tend to "focus" on sports and physical labor. But the ones that do get that opportunity to go into academics are just as good as their white and Asian counterparts. Again it has nothing to do with genetics it's mostly upbringing.

So being a realist makes me a racist? I've never discriminated against anyone based on race. Every person I ever met in life I've judged on personal merit and merit alone. Pointing out scientific and realistic facts dosnt make me a racist.

Asian countries dont have a superior education system. In China a degree in engineering will give you the the knowledge of a tregular car Mechanic in America. I'm a white man but I will point out the truth that ion average the asian and Jew ihas a higher AVERAGE Iq than a white man.
