What would this world look like? Would we all be living under communism right now? or would history have continued on the same path as the USSR in our world?

What are the major differences between Trotskyism and Stalinism?

I think Trotsky advocated Permanent Revolution which i believe is spreading communism around the world, while Stalin advocated Socialism in One Country.. which pretty much explains itself. and Trotsky didnt have an awesome mustache like Stalin, but had a better hair style... to summarize: Pretty much a lot of Stalin contradictions
    Of course, Kaiserreich

From how V.GLenin described Trotskyism I think we could have seen the USSR funding, helping revolutionaries in it's surroundings instead of Stalin's helping the USSR getting up to superpower status after the civil war.Maybe he would go to war against some smaller nations to make communist allies/puppets.

Also the whole cult of personality and subsequent purges of people who disagreed with the big man wouldn't have happened

In that case, I think it would be based more on ideals, but it wouldn't have worked.

True, and with that communism could have actually sounded more attractive to people around the world.. which was the point of Trotskyism

Who knows... Its a reality that we have to guess about..

I reckon it would have been an abject failure. Trotsky was not only behind everyone except Stalin in the leader stakes until Stalin what he did, but was more a la-de-da ideas man than the others. At the same time, like Lenin, he was no angel, and I imagine his failure to settle for 'socialism in one country' would have made him a target for the rest of the world. That and he wouldn't have managed the costly miracle of the five-year plans.
Therefore I would say Trotsky = either White Russia, Allied Occupied/puppet/provisional government bitches Russia, or Lebensraum.

Stalinism is isolationist, authoritarian left nationalist policy. Trotsky is international, global policy that knows no borders and is far more liberal.

Well the USSR would probably be a lot more open but would probably be hated by most of the world for constantly supplying communist revolutionaries in their borders. Also since Trotsky had the ability to make almost everyone around him hate him, I don't imagine him staying in power

Especially not with the whole freedom thing. People'd have the right to protest, and that's what they'd do.

Trotsky would have tried to use his "Spread revolution everywhere!" concept, and he would have ended up like a communist version of Hitler (losing badly), but sooner.
