They both require rudementry mathematics, no?

In principle, yes. However, I'd assume they both use very different kinds of mathematics, most of which are developed separately.

Hey, don't mock cultural influences on military tactics. That's what makes war so interesting. Never mind that pragmatic non-sense.

The Matrix Revolutions. Instead of building EMPs, ships, and turrets, they decide to build mechs with no external protection and machine guns that have to be reloaded in the dumbest way possible. Keep in mind they are fighting millions of flying squid-robots that can swarm them instantly. Fortunately, the robots decide to politely fly directly into their fire in one huge mass.

Now that I think about it, it was quite possibly the dumbest thing. Tho lore gurus would probably find a contradiction or explanation for this.

Star Wars: A New Hope is another good example. I mean, you're building a giant fucking death machine, but you leave a hole from which you can blow up the entire thing with a small fighter? I mean, the chances are minimal, but come on, that's ridiculous. Some people actually calculated how much it'd cost and how long it'd take to build and/or gather the steel necessary...I don't remember the cost, but gathering the steel would take us on Earth about 850.000 years.

That's quite a long shot... I'd ask why did they bring it in action while under construction.

Well, that was the final movie, in which they were attacked by the rebels. The rebels attacked under the impression the Death Star's weapons weren't operational yet, and the ground forces had plenty of time to shut down the shield protecting the station.

Gears of War 2. Am I alone with thinking it's an incredibly bad idea to sink your last remaining stronghold just so you can take out the other guy?

Batman: Arkham City. Are we just talking about battles? If not, then I don't see how letting Bruce Wayne free in the first place fit into Strange's plan.

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. If destroying the command ship disables the droid army, why did the gungans meet them on the battlefield? Why kidnap the Viceroy before taking out the droids? And why can't the droids function without this ship?

Yes, but why not repair it near imperial capital? Not some distant god forsaken frontier?

Well, as the Imperial capital, it'd be pretty busy with space travellers, not to mention as the capital, it'd be filled with rebel spies, who could easily pass through the information. I'm assuming they built it near Endor as Endor itself is only a moon filled with forests, meaning constructing the shield would be easier on the planet, and it'd be concealed well. It's also quite far away from most planets, meaning it'd be easier to keep the construction a secret.

During the Kaiserreich game, I played as the AoG and card was Germany. Line up all my troops on the western border, to prepare an invasion of my neighbors.

Tell card to declare war on the 'yellow chinky bastards', or Yunnan Clique as they are known in game. He says 'lolno' and declares war on the orange chinky bastards, whose name I don't even remember, and whose country consists entirely of fortified mountains and river crossings.

36 divisions on 8, get crushed every single time.

The ship sent them their instructions.
As a matter of canon, the later droids during the Clone Wars could function without a control ship. This was a decision that was made to avoid the same mistake that they made at Naboo. Though some of the droids still had to be linked to a control ship. This lead to Delta Squad's victory in taking back the RAS Prosecutor.
Keep in mind that it was actually a sound idea for the time. The Trade Federation was one of the few powers with actual military capacity. Most others amounted to little more than PDFs for various planets. The Jedi were what the Grand Republic relied on - they didn't even actually have a standing army of note. That is why the clones were needed and why they needed to vote for the creation of an army in the beginning of the Clone Wars. The Trade Federation was virtually unopposed.
The Gungan Army met the droids on the battlefield to draw away the droid army. Otherwise, taking the city would have been impossible with so many droids occupying the city.
The destruction the control ship was a fluke, an enigma. They didn't really have much hope of taking it down, so they had to try to 'negotiate' a treaty. That and the starfighters that they were using were inside the palace in the city, so why not have the ground strike team pursue an objective instead of sitting around twittling their thumbs hoping that the control ship was destroyed?

They explained it in there? It's been a while since I've read them.

The Gungans were distracting the army that was stationed in the capitol city. The few resistance troops would never had made it to the palace if the army was present to stop them.

And the point kidnapping the Viceroy was to force him into renegotiating the treaty he forced on them.

As for the droids functioning without the ship, these aren't independent, intelligent machines, they're designed to work en masse and follow direct instruction, which would have been given from the command ship.

But they could have destroyed the ship first, THEN captured the Viceroy.

In that time, he could and would have escaped Naboo.

He had plenty of time to escape while they were storming the castle. He wasn't exactly surrounded.
