What if Lenin was assasinated on his way to Russia during the first world war.

How do you think world history would have been different?

I really don't have sufficient knowlage to comment on this intellectually, but here we go: There was strong socialist movement going on and as long as they would have a charismatic leader he would be essentially just like Lenin. But it does not matter what he achieves in his life times as it is probably something similar to what Lenin did, but the real question is, what's his legacy? More specifically: Would Stalin rise to lead USSR?

Okay let me edit my question would Stalin have ultimately risen to power? Would Russia have become a communist state or a left wing democratic one? Would there have been a civil war that ensued after the revolution? And would the royal family still have had a large influence on Russian politics?

Don't, because my theory relies that charismatic man like Lenin would rise through ranks to lead people into red future. What if that does not happen? What if Tsar just bans Bolshevik party? I mean there's tons of possibilities, especially in those uncertain times.

Well even with Lenin dead, I feel that there still would of been some type of revolution because even without Lenin, Russia was being pushed back on the Eastern front and the people were still starving and angry, they would just need a new leader.

There would be a revolution, but maybe the Mensheviks would instead triumph, or Trotsky would instead head up the government. Or the revolution would fail. It is impossible to know. It was unstable times, and many possible things could have happened.

I would be just fine if Lenin died.

Hopefully it would give birth to the Revolution, minus the corruption.

Lenin was largely responsible for the authoritarian 'revolutionary' bullshit and centralization of power in the country, so him being dead probably would have been to the benefit of most Russians.

I reckon we'd see the Provisional Government last, although saying that, they were still unpopular for continuing the war and various other problems, but without Lenin, I don't think the Bolsheviks would've got very far. Maybe the Mensheviks would even have stolen back the name Bolshevik. The rest is anyone's guess; i'm sure some people on here want to say 'Kaiserreich would happen' just for the sake of it - beyond that, we just get into all the usual alternate history scenarios that are repeated so often. I find any which results in German domination of Europe to be acceptable (although the current EU road isn't too far off that, bar the loss of Prussia).
