For all of you who may not know, when an acting President is incapacitated and unable to preform his or her duties, there is a list of successors who will take the Office of the Executive.
    It is as follows:
    #
    Office
    Current officer
    1
Vice President of the United States Joe Biden (D)
    2
Speaker of the House John Boehner (R)
    3
President pro tempore of the Senate Daniel Inouye (D)
    4
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton (D)
    5
Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner (I)[3]
    6
Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta (D)
    7
    Attorney General Eric Holder (D)
    8
Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar (D)
    9
Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack (D)
    10
Secretary of Commerce John Bryson (D)
    11
Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis (D)
    12
Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius (D)
    13
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan (D)
    14
Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood (R)
    15
Secretary of Energy Steven Chu (D)
    16
Secretary of Education Arne Duncan (D)
    17
Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki*
    18
Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano (D)

My thing is that, after the Vice President, is the line of succession viable, or likely to be dissolved by some kind of coup?

Well in Highschool of the Dead it gets to the Secretary of Energy without a coup to give the okay to launch nukes.

Holy shit I just realized Inouye was interviewed for The War documentary. Dude had a fucked up life.

As to the OP, I don't see why it's not viable. At least one person from this list is always apart from the others at all times, and, if I recall correctly, they're usually kept at the missile bunker in Virginia. The Speaker is the logical next step down from the President in terms of political power, and I can't see anyone disputing the established line of succession without previously having planned a coup. I really don't think we're vulnerable as far as succession is concerned.

NO NO NO NO! STOP IT! NO! GET OUT! YOU'RE NOT GETTING A SECOND SEASON! JUST DISSOLVE THE FANBASE FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST! FUCK!

I'd say that it's highly unlikely that a coup would take place in any situation.

Gets updated bi-annually. I always see those faggots rage at the slow pace that it gets updated.

Speaking of which, I'm reading a manga called "I am a Hero". It's a far, far better zombie manga. I don't want to recommend it to HoTD fans because they ruin everything.

Well, if Biden and Obama die, then there will be obvious civil unrest from the fact that the two main political leaders are dead.

Didn't only like two episodes of HoTD actually take place in a fucking school?

Well I don't think you could really set the entire thing in a high school. That would be rather contrived.

Yes. The only reason 'high school' is even in the name is because it starts there (the portrayal, not the outbreak). Also, probably, because it catches your eye. Aside from the fact that the characters are mostly former high school students, and the initial escape from their high school, the school has bearing on the plot whatsoever.

Also, it's "Would it really have made a difference quality wise?".

Yes, in between the gore and nausea-inducing levels of ecchi, there was a definite plot. Albeit one that saw absolutely no resolution at the end of season 1.

Well fuck. All I remember is them driving from point A to point B in a hummer, then point B getting overrun for some reason.

So let's say every one on that list gets assasinated, who's next in the succession line?

It starts going to governors, I think. I'm also pretty sure that it's assumed that if someone does assassinate all of those people, we're pretty screwed.
I was thinking that, until I thought about the possible military action that the assassination of our two highest officials would cause. I could see the Joint Chiefs making a move, at least temporarily.

Naaaw, I don't think a coup's possible. Harrison, Taylor, Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, Harding, Roosevelt and Kennedy all kicked the bucket in different ways while in office, and there never was any serious succession crisis. Politically speaking, the U.S. is pretty remarkably stable. If something like what happened with the Polish president two years ago (which I highly, highly doubt) would occur to America's leadership, succession will go down the chain. I don't think this is anything to lose sleep over. It makes a good political thriller book or movie, though.

Well it's extremely popular in North America and Japan so it is very likely we will get another season. On topic, I would like to know has there ever been a case where it got past the vice president?
