This is just going to contain discussion about the "whos, whens, whys, and hows" of World war 3.
For instance; I believe that it would be with China, which is a bit cliche, but given maby 20-30 years, China might have a note-worthy military strength to a degree where we have to give them some elevated descretion, and they might make allies with countries like Iran, which may have a decent millitary by that time. There will be some energy or food crisis, and they decide to attack the biggest resource vacume.

China attacks Russia. US supports Russia. Quick and brutal war. Ends with desperate Chinese leadership launching all its nukes. China's nukes shot out of the sky by US anti-ballistic missiles. China nuked into oblivion. Beginning of nuclear winter over Asia and the pacific, as well as climate effects for the rest of the world.

North America, Europe, India, Israel, Oceania, Australia, Japan, South Korea vs. The rest of Asia, Africa, Middle East, Russia (they are their own continent, let us be honest) and terrorists everywhere.

Maybe, but I think there is not enough ammo to kill them; they could just invade you using forks as weapons.

    China is second.
The US and possibly Russia are the only military that could beat China in a one-on-one fight.
But in the long run, China would probably win out against Russia by numbers.
Everyone else is either simply too small or too technologically deprived to win the fight.

Of course, there are many other factors, like the US intervening or supplying arms to the country fighting China or supplies.

China's military is hardly a force to denounce. If it were, then the US and all of its allies wouldn't mind China building up its military.

This comment is full of fail.
    1) The Chinese have a widely proclaimed, fully public "no fire first" policy on nuclear warfare.
    2) China has no real reason to invade Russia. Not by official means anyways.
    3) The US doesn't have anti-ballistic capibilities to measure. Both the US and China conducted missile tests in which it took both of them 3 tries to shoot down the slow-moving satillites that they were using as target practice. They are evenly matched and neither is stupid enough to think that their severely limited capabilities are enough to stop a full-blown nuclear war by any means.

I doubt there would use of total nuclear warfare. Maybe tactical nukes to destroy huge concentration of forces but not world in flames and nuclear winter. BUT! If people put hurdur representatives who are like "WOOOHOOO NUCLEAR WAR HERE WE COME!" Then we are in a big trouble.

So if we elect a Tea Party person, then nuclear winter will occur. I totally agree.

Not neccessarily a Tea Party person. Just anybody who is powerhungry or just has extreme views on foreign politics and sees enemies everywhere. Hint George.W.Bush foreign policy

But having a WW3 would solve alot of problems like as over population of the world, destroying "evil" nations, collapsing the modern economy and MAYBE start changing to a different form of a economy. Also there is that possibility that we just engulf ourselves in nuclear fire and burn.

I sat and thought about this for a while. I decided that there aren't any world leaders at present daft enough to start a world war, so I figured some nutter would have to sieze power in a similar way to Hitler first. First thought was Russia, since they've been in a similar position to Weimar Germany for the last 20 years. But then I figured that their military is far too far behind technologically to catch up the way Germany did. So then I thought that the best bet might be some Right-Wing nutjob in the U.S.A. (and fuck me, there are a lot of those) becoming voted in and taking an incredibly aggressive foreign policy that would eventually prompt some sort of global conflict.

Alternate scenario for consideration? October revolution v2.0 essentially. Hell it might even happen in Russia. Far less likely due to the last huge revolutionary wave being prompted by an ongoing major conflict in the first place, but I guess it could still happen. I mean if you look at Europe and even America, there's certainly increasing unrest from the disenfranchised sections of society, all with a notably anti-capitalist focus. And as the cold warriors of the older generations die out, it'll only get stronger. When you think about it, the Russian Civil War was quite a large conflict. It wasn't just strictly a civil war after all - Most of western Europe and the US were in on the action, and honestly I think the only reason it didn't become even bigger was because of war weariness in Europe after the Great War.

Anyway the whole subject of world war 3 is an excercise in wild speculation and in a lot of people's cases, a generous helping of fantasy. This isn't like it was after WW1, where plenty of people could tell what trouble Versailles was going to cause in the future, or during the cold war where the prospective antagonists were totally obvious. It's not even like before the first world war, where there were multiple, relatively evenly matched power blocks gradually squaring off against each other for a fairly forgone conclusion. Something big has to change on our current global stage for there to be any hint of a third world war, frankly.

If their military sucks so much, and if you're so sure you could beat them easily, then why are you so scared of them? I mean surely if the second largest power in the world are so weak, you don't need that monstrous defense budget you current have, right?

I think I've found another case of double-think, here.

Some wonderful news out of India: they have achieved nuclear strike capability on China. That ought to make those red bastards think twice before screwing around in Southeast Asia.

Funny really. India gains ICBMs and it's all "good news everyone!" North Korea attempts and fails to launch a missile and it's all "HERPDERP WTF NORF KOREA?!?!?!" In spite of the fact that India is far more likely to deploy nuclear weapons in a land war than North Korea is.

Also slightly annoyed by it because part of my taxes go to India in the form of foreign aid, when apparently they can afford to build an arsenal of ICBMs. In short - public services in the UK are essentially being cut to fund India's ability to kill millions of people. This makes me... A bit cross. To say the least.
