I really don't know how a person could live in the US and NOT see the dilution of cultures.

Maybe it is just me, but I can see massive differences between even 1st and 2nd gens.

That's fine. I just think that the US is a good example of cultures coming together and working. For good or bad is up to you depending on what argument you make.

I was talking about forceful and immediate unification.

Who said it had to be all of a sudden? I was thinking of a slow transition.

A slow transition would work better imo.

Well if the government manages to oppress the population well enough it could work with a forceful unification. If they set up a secret police similar to the MGB ( Ministry for State Security in the USSR 1946-1953). Also set out a network of informers and make the goverment able to arrest everyone at will. This is of courrse not an ideal situation, but it would keep the country together for a while at least. It would be similar to East germany or the Stalinist USSR. Eventually it would probaly crumble upon itself, since you can only suppress a population for so long but some states mastered the art of suppresing the population like the USSR.

    Sorry, Forgot about this thread.

We are humans, we have a bit of trouble getting along with eachother(not saying thats bad, but it's true). As of now, to many ethic, political, religious and historical divisions exist.

Well I guess we could finance every third world country till they could stand by themselves, but we would cripple our own nations in the process.

Well that's not very fun, I want to rule earth goddamn it. But yea a dictatorship would not work, It would be near immpossible to even maintaint your hold over such a vast area and such a large body of people, and it would soon callapse.

I can gaurantee you building a road network(let alone a global road network) is not simple task. I am not saying it is immposible, but you are acting as if it would be easy as building a sand castle.

I can assure you, many nations would see this new global government as a imperialistic power, and would undoutably try to break away from it. This would be made all the easier if you give them local troops.

You have a scinece fiction class? Thats awesome, I assume you are in college?

Problem with that is, in a consumer based economy, its less about what you need, and more about what you want.

Even then in the forming of this government the first memebers of this government would undoutably be the most powerful nations, and would defintaly give themselves an edge over weaker members. Eventually this would stop, but I can see it being a problem for a while.

Hey you know who else managed to unite and work together after centuries of ethnic and cultural rivalry? Yugoslavia, and they are a shining example... oh wait, shit...
Never mind guys, it's totally gonna work and I fully support this idea!

Well, nothing that is global is easy to do. Parts of it would be easy, though. You finish these parts first. The hardest places to build through would be Asia, Africa, and South America, as the first world countries are already very heavily connected. What you would do for these places is create a trans-continental highway, and slowly over time extend branches off of this highway to major cities. You would then extend branches from those highways to go to towns, then build roads from towns to villages, then from villages to surrounding farms. This would take years, but it could actually be beneficial as it would jump start the new economy with probably millions of new jobs. But, hopefully, in 100 years we won't have to worry about these problems because we will have hover cars that we can park anywhere and fly over anything :p
After a few failed and localized revolutions, the populace would settle down. Also, as I said, the creation of a world nation would take decades, meaning many countries will have already settled down and gotten used to the world government already. Its not like all the countries in the world would be suddenly thrown together and we would have to hold them down. Also, you have to consider that much of the world will be under the power of several large nations, meaning people will be used to being ruled (for lack of a better term) from some far away land. That said, I believe in a world where the people don't really think about the government in their everyday lives, just on elections and keeping up with new policies.
High school, as Sly said, our high school is just that awesome :p

In the future, I can hope we get what we need and keep the world clean and not strip it of its resources. But, if that is not the case, environmental laws protect, so if someone wants something that is under protection, then they won't get it. I support individualism and goals, but I want people to still consider the impact of their actions on others. The economy will be based on what people need, not what they want, with room to get what you want as well, if you can do it without causing harm to others or our Earth.
True, but I want the government to be based less on former countries and more on reasons. As you said, this kind of stuff would eventually stop, and unfortunately its a small price we may have to pay for peace.
Yes, we have since 5th grade :p

We can take intro to human behavior when we are freshmen but we can't take AP psychology (the only other psychology class our school has) until senior year.

Also, our school is so badass, we have a class dedicated to the history of sports.

How can you have classes that interesting at the highschool level? All my classes are pretty much the standard classes(math, history, biology etc.) And the classes I can choose from, are either some form of computer class, art class, or I could join the school band. That's it.
