If you go by numbers only, the chance that we are just a simulation is quite high. I personally don't believe it, because if we were to be simulated, the graphics would be better!

Actually the article is a little above my head, perhaps I'll understand it eventually but can anyone with superior intelligence help me?

Basically it says, that if you assume that processing power of computers are growing in a rate similar to how they have been growing in the last 20 years, that future generations will have the ability to simulate whole universes on em, including basically everything from the forming of life to whatever etc etc.

Seeing that we use computer simulations today for research in a variety of branches and ways, it is logical to assume that this will someday be done. And since a "universe simulation" can run on many computers, very fast, it is fair to assume that there will be many many many those simulations running all the time. Thus, coming to the conclussion that the probability of us beeing a simulation is higher then being "real".

Makes sense, I'll read it more in depth when I get out of school.

Surely the fact that I am currenty thinking is the destruction of this theory. I have a consience, something that is impossible to simulate.

We can create AIs that can make decisions like human brains and function like human beeings (in a cpomputer run simulation). And thats with like under 100 years after the invention of the first real computer. I don't think it is impossible that in a Million years or so we are so advanced that we can "create" concious in AIs.

You mis-understand. I am a living being capable of recognising right or wrong. All that a computer can ever be programmed to do is recognise whatever the algorithm is telling it to do. Furthermore, there are no anomolies or glitches in this universe which will always exist in a technological creation such as a computer generated simulation, espcially if the universe were to be "programmed" as it were.

Please explain to me how you know that your proposed absolute that there will "NEVER" be ANY possibilty of simulating a conscience. What do you know about the future, that I don't ?
Same goes for the second sentence, with your absolute assumption "ALWAYS".

We know there can be never be any consience because it defies logic. Think on it. A machine can only think in logical ways, I find the thought of a machine having consience programmed into it to be literally un-imagineable. And for the second sentence, we know because we are still here.

Our machines can not, but how do you know that machines in a million years, build by our evolved successors aren't capable? oO
200 years ago, no onew thought we can have discussions with people from all corners of the world at the same time. No one could imagine such kind of thing. But, we do today....

Send letter to person in China, takes 3 years still works, nowadays its more efficient, the idea was always there and we improved on it.

You miss the point that 200 years ago people like C_G said: "I can't think that talking to someone in China and Europe from America at the exact same moment is possible" The point is not that Mail is a (veeeeeery distant) predecessor to that technology.

Eventually, we will be able to make computers as smart as monkeys. Once we do that, the computers will be able to formulate their own plans, because monkeys can formulate their own plans.

And then the computers take over the world, or we become Cyborgs.
