If 120,000 people died, would you say its a "relatively small number"? 120,000 is still a hell of a lot.
The politicians do what their voters want, not the other way around.

The population of Iceland is 319,575, just saying.

Not really. Like BleedingHeartCaptain said, it's a representative democracy. Ideally, these people aren't complete mindless robots that do what the voters wish. You'd hope they prefer to use their better judgement when thinking of governance instead of just doing what the people want. Someone who is much smarter than I correct me on this if I am wrong, but is that not what the founding fathers had in mind? I've read jack shit from them so I have no idea.

As an aside, it's important to note that representative democracy is defined by the inclusion of direct democratic practices, and in the US those are the initiative and referendum. A petition is exactly how you get the ball rolling on both.

And? 120,000 people jumping behind something still isn't anything to sneeze at. And remember, its not like this is months old, the video came out a week ago. And I also want to point out the number just jumped to 130,000.
The people are the country. You cannot have a country without loyal citizens. Therefore, what's best for the country IS what's best for the people. And if a bunch of people want something to get passed, then ideally it should be looked at.
"A government by the people, for the people" sounds a lot like they want the politicians to do what's best for the people.

    That is true.

In a few months I bet the majority of people will forget about this and be onto something else.

Agreed. Though what is best for the people is not always necessarily what they want.

Well this is like stepping out of a time machine, because this sounds like my 5th grade teacher! That fucking jackass insulted me openly in front of the entire class. I got pretty swift revenge for that, I told the principle and he was out by the next day.

They probably will. But it will be out there that thousands of people are disgusted by the teacher. And that's just those that bothered to sign it.
Sometimes it doesn't matter what would be best for the people.

In my opinion, while the new video does take it over the line a little bit, its content is pretty fair and I agree with what he is trying to say. That being said, a second video wasn't really necessary and I think this may do more damage to his cause then help, especially with the media he specifically said was so important.

Because the father is being fucking ridiculous, he has no right to show this to every fucking person on the planet wanting to do good. I am also willing to bet that every person currently supoprting him were also supporting Make Kony Famous.

It wasn't a literal comparison, ofcourse.

I am more or less saying that everyone wants to do good by supporting a video over the internet, regardless of the scale of the problem. They think that by simply clicking a "Like" button that they are clicking for the betterment of society and to ease their feelings about the knowledge that they are never going to contribute in the slightest to the world, I am also included in this. People need to stop pretending that they are helping anyone other than themselves.

I'd also like to mention the completely cruel and unnecessary bombardment of hate mail and attention that the woman is likely going to receive because of his careless disregard for personal privacy.
