Today (when this was posted) my math teacher said we missed the golden age of gaming. There are alot of great games in the present but has that golden age came to an end already? Is the quality of games today better than the games in the past? I want to see your own opinions on this matter.

Well, as a point, the golden age has certainly not 'came' and gone.

But besides that, it has some good points and some bad points.
On one hand, games are increasingly simplified due to mainstreaming for profit.
I'll leave the other hand to someone else.

Only hipsters and people with nostalgia goggles on think that. There have always been, and will always be both shitty games, and great games in every era. AAA titles will naturally be simpler, but niche markets are also significantly more developed today, and benefit from vastly improved technology.

Games like Skyrim are far better than anything the "Golden Age" produced. It's like all Golden Ages, they really weren't that Golden. That's not say those days didn't have good games, but we've whittled it down to the gems. Meanwhile we actively ignore the gems in our own time.

K, so I kind of understood the OP.
No, the generation preceeding the present were probably not the golden age of gaming.
And gaming certainly has not gone down on a general basis since then.
My bad, I thought that you were refering to the current gen.

The term golden age is only properly used in retrospect, since gaming has has only been around for about 35 years, the answer is, No.

What is annoying now is that many games are based on the sole purpose for profit and they dont even care about game quality as much (such as COD games nowadays). Its like McDonalds; they serve your junk, and you eat it. However games like skyrim have a very good game quality, and for the people who loves those games its like a masterpiece (eg. Chive's Text-Based Adventure Game). There will be always great games thoughout the ages, some will be remembered, and others forgotten in the sands of time. The Golden Age of Gaming has already started and has yet to come to a close.

I think it is just beginning considering the graphics. Hell, NBA 2k is starting to introduce 3D. And then there are the innovations such as the Kinect. We are in a "Golden" age of video games.

Eh I don't really think that alot of the new things nowadays will actually *make it* I mean sure the kinect is cool, And and all but what can you really do with it ?, the only game I saw for it that even looked cool was this one roman fighting game they had coming out for it, and other then that it seems the only other use is voice commands, I mean sure its cool to be all like Xbox off ! and watch it turn off but in the end that's just kinda stupid, I also don't see controllers going away anytime soon because who really wants to stand up and jump around yelling HADOKEN ! playing street fighter or swinging their arms around in a werid fashion because their playing some sort of sword based rpg, I mean hell I don't lol.

Graphics play a part in this because if a game looks crappy, not many people are going to buy it. I know that games in the past were simplistic, but that was just the beginning and they slowly advanced. Nowadays, you're not going to buy a game that has atrocious graphics unless it is either necessary or a really good game. Think Super Mario and Minecraft, those games have low graphics, but Mario is great and a classic and Minecraft's graphics are necessary.

I voted for both options because I can. TS, Fix your polls next time. Anyway, I feel like games are becoming way better than they used to be. There are more bad games now, but also more good games. Keep in mind that a ton of bad games were coming out during the supposed 'golden age', but nobody will go back to play those. You only remember the good ones. This happens with music too. I hate it when people say that music used to be better in like the 70's and they conveniently forget all of the bad music that came out during that time.
