The greek (6th of may) and the french (10th and and 17th of June) legislative elections will certainly have a big boost for extremist marxist parties and extremist nationalists parties (as the presiential elections showed in France and as the opinion pollings have shown in Greece).

Are we turning to a new age of politicall extremisms (like in the 1920´s and the 1930´s)? Is liberal democracy in danger?

Well in Greece i see a rise of the far right like the Golden Dawn. This is because in times of economic difficulty people usually blame the immigrants for everything going wrong. it is also to punish the parties in power if the Golden Dawn wins some votes.

The French Socialist Party is, sadly, not really socialist anymore, but social-democratic, who have practically nothing in common with Marxists... Please refrain from mixing the two very different groups up in the future.

When did I said that the socialist party was extremist? I was reffering to the National Fornt and the Communist Party of France.

The extremist marxist parties are equally dangerous. Like the nationalists blame the imigrants, the marxists blame capitalism, when the crysis in Greece was actually caused by too much spending on social benefits.

This is from 20 minutes ago. the Golden Dawn is probably the first nazi party in history to gain seats in aparliament since the nazi party of germany. This is bad. Really bad.

Why is your text like that?

Anyway, the difference is that it is Capitalism's fault. Or at least the implications of Capitalism.
You see Capitalism sounds great on paper, but in reality it is a fallacy.

So a low tiered American politician says some things, and America gets a 15 page thread about how it's fascist, but a European country elects actual fascists and the thread gets like a dozen views? smh

I wouldn't say that people were turning to extremes plural in France as the Left Front got blown out of the water by the National Front therefore France is turning to one extreme; nationalism. Although in Greece I would agree that people are turning to extremes as the far left party is now the second largest party in Greece ( a good thing in my opinion) but Golden Dawn, the neo-nazis for those who don't follow Greek politics, gaining a place in parliament is extremely worrying. If it were up to me all far right parties would be banned, freedom of speech is overrated.

Really? I think banning a party that harasses socialists, beats up immigrants and wants to place land mines on their border isn't "bad" it's just common sense.

No, you can´t, because is anti-democratic. If you want to show you are better then them, you should give their right to free speech and free association. If they get violent, you have the judicial system to take care of that. Banning them will not solve that and will make them more extreme and violent.

Well Greece has been a pretty shitty and cracy place(except for tourists) since WW2, and Golden Dawn "only" got 7% of the vote. I think Greeks are pretty desperate right now, and it's going to pass in a couple of years, but it's Greece, something's bound to go wrong...

You're kidding me right? Of course they can if they want.(that doesn't mean I agree) It's like telling China that they can't exploit and suppress their workers.

I don´t care. For me, is ethically wrong to advocate such a thing.

Like Voltaire once said (itwas something likethis): "I completely disagree with your opinion, but I will fight to the death for your right to express it".
