I ask this question after watching a lecture by a man called Tim Wise who has written several books on the topic of race. He seems to think that race is still an important topic to discuss and have an open debate on. i would like to hear your opinions and if you have time here is his lecture:

and a counter arguement not as long as the lecture but still makes some points:

To be honest, I don't think racism is a big issue, at least in America now. Sure does it still come up from time to time? Yeah, but it is not like there is still a major problem with racism today in America at least. Imo.

I don't know what you mean by "this society"...
Being racist is deeply rooted in human nature, but as long as we surpress that natural instinct it's not a major issue, but only a minor nuisance.

Well I would say it's not as bad as lets say it was in the 1950s, but I don't think racism isn't going to end anytime soon.

well i should have clarified it but mostly in America i guess you could also say its a global question but Wise was just using racism in America in his lecture

Racism is, like what Warburg said, in human nature, I don't think you can argue against that. It goes to a point where I can be racist to a particular people who are racist towards others. (Like Southerners in the United States, for example)

Sure, we've become more tolerant as a society, we've become open to mixing in with other races, and aren't as oppressive on different races. But I see and hear so damned much of it that I cannot keep thinking that it isn't a major issue.

Nationalism is a bigger problem than racism, in my opinion. Its no longer what race you are, but what country you're from. Also, class warfare, but I don't want to sound like a dirty red.
