I'm arguing for Roman legions beating phalanx. I could argue the combat situation specifically, but as I'm not expert on it I rather take historical examples. (early) Roman legions conquered Greece that used phalanx and got slaughtered.

    Fair enough.

I do think legions are equipped better equipment overall. The pilum, a big ass shield, superb armor, and a lot of discipline.

I still think Hannibal would win.

Hannibal beat Roman armies, because he had superior tactics. That is also thrown out of the window as this is Julius we're speaking about.

Well there is about an entire page on Hannibal already so I refuse to go back into that topic.

EDIT: Caesar wins though. Rome total war told me so.

Do you wanna try repeatedly beating armies 3-5 times larger than yours, without losing a single one of those encounters for 11 years?

edit: Alexander started out his invasion of Anatolia without about a months left of supply left, a small army, and almost nothing left in the macedonian coffers. Taking Anatolia alone is a great feat.

edit 2: Persia had a population that outnumbered Greece 10 to 1. Bigger population-more manpower. Alexander's conquests of the Persian empire, are the equivalent of Japan conquering the USA.
