From reading this ''lovely'' thread http://josefvstalin.com/threads/alexander-the-great-vs-julius-caesar.8324/page-2#post-252112 I felt that I needed to create this thread.

One important thing to remember is ''the winner wrights history'' even though it is widely known people seem to forgetting it. One famous instance of this is the invasion of Greece by Persia the Greeks made the Persians look like the most evil deranged civilization ever. Meanwhile the Greek was a bastion of culture, freedom and prowess even though it's not nearly true.
Now we know that the Persians where one of the most tolerant, forward civilization but still there is people that see the Greeks as the bastion of culture and the Persians as evil.

Shit happens, thats why when you learn history in school you mostly get it from one point of view and really to understand History you need more than one.

Anybody who is even remotely interested in the Persians and Greeks know that the Persians were just as tolerant as the Greeks, and even probably more so.

Just because Caesar called the Gauls and Germans uncivilized and barbaric and all that, doesn't mean we think of the ancient gauls and germans in that way (at least people who know what the hell they are talking about), and we recognize that the Gauls and Germanic tribes had great cultures.

In the end, it does make it harder for historians to take out propaganda from fact, but that is why no decent historian takes everything that is said at face value.
