Of all the communist "icons" out there, from Lenin to Mao, Che Guevara's easily one of the least controversial. Probably because he never actually got into power anywhere. After all people would probably look more favourably on the Bolsheviks if they'd lost the civil war. For instance, look at the Paris Commune, or the Spanish anarchists, or the Spartakists. Very rarely have I seen any historian unnecessarily demonize these groups, because at the end of the day they justifiably rose up against a very, very shitty society, and never got the chance to set about building one that turned out to be worse. The same is ultimately true of Che. If he'd succeeded in Bolivia, and chosen to stay there, I'm confident that he wouldn't be regarded as the legendary icon he is today. At least, not outside the communist movement, he wouldn't.

I think I'm going to do more research on Che, before giving an opinion on him.

I'm still at the early part of his life and to sum it up

    *He had asthma
    *His parents were leftist
*He was into poetry and very smart.
    *lol Chess pro.

So are you guys conceding? That you lost the historical debate to Kobashenka? Because in my mind, you lost. And you are not even regarding the most amazing post I have seen in some time.

Che was a hero. He did some things wrong, but then again so did Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. He does not deserve the hate he sometimes gets. That hate is not against him, but is against his ideology. Some people just hate anything communist or socialist, and that is why Che is hated by some people, not because of what he actually did. What he did was heroic, and I'm pissed my fucking computer messed up and put me as voting the third option instead of the second *double facepalm*

Jingles said it first. He never got a chance to rule a country on his own and fuck it up.

The question is, did he ever want to or was he just such a hardcore revolutionary that all he did was take up the role of the vanguard.

The same could almost be said of Alexander. While a leader of Macedon, yes, he did a lot more generating than kinging. If he had returned to Babylon and not died, what would his rule be like? Would he fuck up his legacy? Same can be said for Che.

He wouldn't necessarily have fucked it up....considering the one communist country he helped form (Cuba) isn't in very bad shape.

Even though Cuba was never communist, heck the revolution was in alliance with the peasantry and they only declared themselves to be communist when the soviet where all like WE LOVE YOU.

Not to mention the current capitalist reforms going on in the country.
