Russia is a country that emerged out of the collapse of the former superpower the USSR in 1991. That even today remains as a major power with its vast natural resources, big population, large economy, advanced technology, etc. I ask this will Russia ever be a superpower again, like in the cold war? I think Russia will remain a major power for a very long time, and has the potential of being a superpower again.

Well Russia has been using the wars in the middle east to get attention off there rising status, although many people have been saying that because of population decline Russia will not be in a position to be a "superpower" for very long.

For now I say we will see a increase in the power of Russia, followed by a nice steady decline.

Well I would prefer to wait it out and see how long Putin lasts. The Russians really seem pissed at him to put it nicely.

Why is there population going down? Isn't it because they have a lot of old people, or are they like Japan and just not having babies?

If I recall its a little of both, Putin is paying for people to have the babies.

Thank you for informing me, I was wondering.

If Putin wanted to have a real difference just outlaw birth-control, condoms, gay people while demanding there be orgies in the streets.

Yeah, man, and those millions of jews? deserved to be massacred. //sarcasm

I don't think Russia fell as far from Superpower status as people in 'Murica think, most Americans think that Russia's a puny little defeated country now, they're still a power to be reckoned with.

Nobody thinks that, a wounded enemy is a scarier foe. Also I'm glad you caught my sarcasm.

oh yeah, people do. if you ask the majority of the people where i live, they'll say "Oh, yeah, we beat the shit out of them, filthy commies, 'Murica!"

and i agree, a wounded foe is scarier, and it doesn't help when people make media that slanders Russia and makes it the bad guy all the time *cough* CoD *cough*

Saying a super power is judged by the size of their army is like judging the most popular kid in school based on who has the biggest dick.

Russia is a super power because of its political power in the World. Though their army follows that up.

Well if they find way to fix that huge population problem then maybe, barring that I don't think so.

USA is regarded world wide as the sole superpower after the collapse of the Soviets.

If you wanna get into largest army, technically North Korea has the largest army at 9 million active personnel. the Russians used to have the largest (c. 2009) with 21 million, but they must have called off the majority of their 20 million reserves.

It's also regarded as the world's best country, and it's pretty damn far from that too.

    EDIT: sorry for double post.
