Well, I do think it went further than simply reskinning units (although that did happen in several cases). The different factions had quite different tactics depending on their unit types. I really felt like that was missing from Empire, Napoleon, and probably Shogun 2 as well, but I've only seen LPs from that game.
Yeah that's one thing i liked about the main factions, was that their tactics were so different. Only problem here is that rome got the best type of unit in infantry, Cav, and arguably archers. Also people tended to strip certain factions from their tactics by making stupid rules online like no cav archers or no elephants. This stripped certain factions from their main units. Just so that the other player could spam Urbans and other heavy units instead of getting a few javelin men to deal with elephants and some light cav to get rid of cav archers.
Well, I didn't play much online, but yeah, some of the rules seem really strange. And aren't the Parthian cav units better than the Roman ones? The Camel cataphracts are pretty powerful.
The Parthian cav could be considered better but, they were a different unit enterly with different tactics as they were slower. I'm comparing the heavy roman cav to other factions heavy cav. The roman cav is just as fast and more heavily armourd and more powerfull then carthiginan, macedonian, gaulish, and selucid cav.
Here's PC Gamers article http://www.pcgamer.com/previews/tot...new-engine-naval-combat-multiplayer-and-mods/ RPS http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/07/02/total-war-rome-2-preview/
Its a redo of arguably the best total war game to date, so its not much of a surprise. Hopefully I have a job by then so I can get a computer.
Looks like pretty exciting stuff I must say. I'm keeping my eyes open, and taking it with a pinch of salt so far. In terms of unit's uniquness, I think this game will have much more flexibility than shogun had, as it's much more wide spread in terms of cultures and stuff, and less standardisation than the more modern ones, hope they can balance it for multi player though.

The fuck?! Are you srs? If I can barely run Rome: Total War, you're telling me I can run Rome 2: Total war?
You see the pic daddy92 posted? I have that same pic with a description of the games features and that's what it said. I can't post it tho cuz I'm on a phone. Mosh can though cuz I sent it to him and he knows what pic he would be looking for. It might be on one of the links in not sure. Another source said its gonba have the same minimum specs as shogun,do don't hold me to that.
Btw guys this is the only thread I'm gonna be posting on til I get back due to extremely limited 3G left. Also they are hoping to release it in the second half of 2013 do as early as June and as late as Christmas 2013.
I'm praying for some faction variety here as there were zero differences between factions in shogun aside from the starting location and the meager stat differences.
I don't think that's possible. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not a PC gamer, but could you possibly give me an example of this happening for any other game? This seems too good to be true.
