I think its the perfect time to say....AMERICA, FUCK YEAH!
Anyways I have a hard time supporting my own country in the face of carthages terrible defense and everyone against him. I happen to have lived 12 years in America, and 2 1/2 years in England, and there are fat/uneducated people in most countries. Americans only seem like assholes because thats how they make themselves feel more important. Generally, being the most powerful country currently on Earth makes Americans feel like they have the right to be a big dick and stick their hands in everyone elses buisness.

But, wasn't that also why in the end they fell apart? When the diplomatically subjugated people felt they could just as well govern themselves, there was hardly anything the Persians could do about it, especially with the Greeks knocking on their front door.

Well we already had a fight on the Pellopenessian War so... What about the Etruscans. They were arguably the first real civilized folk in Italy (yes even before the Greek colonies), and challenged Carthage at one point for naval supremacy. They had a HUGE influence on just about everything in the Roman world. Methinks they seem to not get the credit they deserve.

I believe the last three kings (maybe more) were Etruscans. The early Roman army was influenced by the Etruscans. THANK YOU ETRUSCANS! They do deserve a lot of credit considering they influenced one of the greatest empires the world has ever seen.

The Roman Gods were heavily influenced by the Etruscans as well as the temples, people wearing togas, and basically just about everything you can think of for early Rome was heavily influenced by the Etruscans.

Actually the Roman gods were heavily influenced by Greece after they conquered it. I don't know much about the Etruscan religion. I would like to know more about it.

The Romans developed their Gods LONG before they conquered Greece. The Etruscan Gods were influenced by Greeks yes but there were small differences. The Roman Gods were influenced heavily by the Etruscans.

On to another topic, what do you guys think about the Diadochi's?

But weren't the Roman gods direct copies of the Greek ones, just with different name? They did have the Penates, but if the myths have a decent basis of truth, those date back from when they lived in Troy, or else wherever they came from. Of course, they added a lot of other gods to their Pantheon, like the Egyptian ones. So, they might've started off with the Penates and the Etruscan gods, and adopted the Greek ones later on. Of course, the adoption of Christianity stopped this. Would've been...interesting to see how they would alter their own mythology if they were to include the Christian God into their Pantheon instead of taking Him as their own God.

On the other subject, can't say I know too much about them.

The Romans were superstitious about religion. They always adopted conquered cultures gods in case they were wrong. Sly, I see your point.

On anything in particular? If not, then how much of the myth around the building of Rome do you guys think is true? And by that I mean from the part where Romulus and Remus set off to build a city together.

Well the "Rome being built in one day isn't true." I want to know more about how they "fought".

I think "Rome wasn't built in a day" was only thought of later on. But from what I understand, they had a fight, causing both to make their own city. When Romulus was constructing his walls, Remus laughed at some low it was, and jumped over it. This made Romulus very angry, so he killed his brother, saying anyone who'll intrude on his city will suffer the same fate. I don't know if anything became of Remus' city, though.
