    Not just pacifists, specifically.
We are talking about a global war wrought between the US and the rest of the world.
The death toll would be staggaring - the kind of scale not seen since the end of the Second World War.
As a nation that says that it is devoted to peace and progress, the people would balk at the massive amounts of destruction such a war would bring.

Not of if we were attacked. Viking socrates was asking how many nations would have to ally with eachother to defeat the US. That seems like they would be the ones who attacked first, so if anything that would be more of a problem for the nations attacking us.

I honestly just can't see any reasonable way without nukes the United states would be defeated.

    Don't count on it.
Remember that people tend to find good reasons for doing whatever they want.
And who is in the right is usually the majority.

    Psychological warfare.

I would like to see your reasoning with this.

I am pretty confident that the american populace would be willing to defend themselves from foreign agressors, I can't see us just giving up.

Defend, yes, but that depends on the goals of the invasion.
If it is total annialiation, yes, much of the US populous would probably fight to the bitter end.

But given the option, I think that the majority of the US populous would rather mend their ways than continue such a costly conflict. If trying to impose some modicum of humility on the US population was the intention.

It is, of course, a double-sided sword, and could work both ways.
But then, we aren't considering the alternative as a possiblity, are we?

    On the basis of what?

The US populous is not one with a particularly strong stomach for total war.

Actually if came down to it the United States would stomach a total war and you would see the rage of america directed at whatever nation we were at war with. Americans just hate nontraditional hit and run war.

Most people I know own guns. And most people I know are blind patriots and military enthusiasts. Occupiers might be able to control dots and lines, but America could never be conquered.

Hate guerrilla warfare? That is what won the US its independence.

The US is not one for total warfare. Their continued hesitation to fire into populated areas is proof of it.
I can name at least 2 nations that would have no problem using total warfare to a scale that would stagger what the US is doing in the Middle East. If they ever had a reason to go to war.

And there is a fine line between what the US governmentment and military are willing to do and what the public in the US can stomach.

Didn't I say 'Who said anything about occupation?' or something to that effect?

And I don't know where you live, but I doubt that they are capible of stomaching the massive amounts of casulties that war inflicts. Few people are for that matter.
Even the blindest patriot still sees the horrors of warfare and killing fellow humans. They may justify it, but that doesn't mean that they will last any longer.

I don't think you are comprehending the scenario everybody else is. We are discussing what would happen if nations attempted to invade America, not whatever the hell you are rambling about.

I am talking about a side of warfare. Its not just shooting and lobbing munitions at people.
I am saying that there is a psychological aspect to it. One that I believe would undermine a successful US defense.
