well that depends on how you look at it, I think it's two people who love each other choosing to spend their life together, Nietzsche defines love as "finding someone who lives your life differently that you do and rejoicing". Also don't pull that shit of "we don't want to redefine the word" because it already is:

    Definition of MARRIAGE

    (1) : the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (2) : the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage

Marriage should be between any 2 consenting adults. I fail to see how it's anyone else's business but the 2 in love about whether they can or can't get married. No-one is forcing a preacher/priest to marry them in a church. Religion should only govern those who wish to practice it and shoot, I am a Christian for gay marriage.

It's sad when people like the same people but other people say that those people can't get married because there the same type of people. is this the base around gay marriage or am i dumber than i thought.

Sir, you just blew my mind.

No, I know what you're trying to say, but I don't like gay things in general, I'm not saying I despise their existance, I'm saying that I do not want to be involved with those types of things.

My family is very Roman Catholic, and cultural about it, what I mean by this is, what we do with our family, like attending a mass, having dinner, etc. we do it like our relatives before us, we don't change it up alot by wearing pink tanktops or something of that sort and act strange and not so cultural around the whole family. It is upsetting if that happens.

It's like if you're dating a girl, and you go to her parents house to meet her parents and act like a douche, you don't think you're acting like a douche, but you're a douche.

Marriage should have nothing to do with the state. It started as a religious institution and ought to have stayed that way.

so that's a no on the Broadway play celebrating you existence, I got the cast of Rent to make a musical on your life but whatever. I suppose you also want to get rid of the Liza Minnelli look-a-like contest/ fan club. Everyone was going to get jean shorts and a copy of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the door and we were all going talk about how great are moms were but no, there is no pleasing you is there? :)

That could cause havoc with my Shiksa thing

You're missing the point. Marriage isn't supposed to be some generic union between two people or whatever, it's supposed to be a religious connection. The state has no business with marriage.

But filling out joint tax forms looks like fun!
On a serious note: Aren't there tax/legal benefits to being married though?

So, Kal, what is the secular alternative? Does this alternative share the same benefits of Marriage?

There is no secular alternative. There should be no benefits to marriage that should be of public concern.
