There was still no need to purge the army but you can say the USSR became a superpower because of Stalin.

You know there was a guy named Trotsky who it is believed that Lenin wanted to lead instead of Stalin right?

Remember that YouTube video Stalin did a while back about the reasoning of his username? That seems like a better place to smear this shit.

    Well, go on...

I figured since this...you know the historical events section of the forums, it would be a good place to talk about a historical character who helped engineer one of the greatest man-made famines ever.

No, I don't think this would be a very good idea. Just think about it morally, what is your intentions on posting this? Are you going to tell a story, or raise a point? I see little to no reason why it should be here.

We watched it in school and I thought it would be interesting to get another major historical debate going which we seem to be lacking in this section in recent times. Also its history.

I don't think History would imply a bias view on Communism and the Soviets, based on an event in which they were unfortunate to have happen to them.

We have a forum almost completely made up of ocmmies and socialists and from what I recall, the forum is completely split right down the center on whether The USSR was good or bad and whether Stalin was good or bad. That makes for an interesting debate, which it has played out to be so far.

Back to my original point, it shouldn't be here regardless of whether or not it makes for a shit and a giggle for you.

I'd rather just skip to the end of the thread and post whatever I feel fit from the information that I see on the last page when this happens. Like now.

I wasn't posting it for shits and giggles. Like I said, I thought it would make for an interesting debate.

As Trotsky put it: "In a country where the state is the sole employer, this policy [referring to Stalin's policy] means a slow death by starvation [for oppositionists]. The old principle: who does not work shall not eat, has been replaced with a new one: who does not obey shall not eat."

I actually float on the middle. Stalin had huge impact on Russia (transforming most backwards country in Europe into a worlds strongest super power anyone?) but all the shit he did was totally not cool.

Imperial Russia was on track to surpass Germany in terms of industrial capacity by the time WW2 came around so that doesn't really carry much weight.
