Like I said before if they didn't intervene their world image would be destroyed. They would also lose a chance at an oil exporter and an ally in the region.

Lol, im no Che I think you forget that. I am just pointing out that if the UN can successfully overthrow Iraq and Afghanistan gov'ts , then they shouldn't have a problem maintaining order in rundown countries. BTW, the whole fucking point of the UN is to promote world peace. It's in their mission statement.

The U.N really never focused on peace, cause if they did alot of "wars and genocides" would have been stoped not just a select view that happen to be sitting on some the best minerals known to man and of cource Oil.

Its like the League of nations just a bit better.

Promote world peacem not run some sort of occupation throughout most of Aftica and southeast Asia. Imagine the cost of all that, than imagine the mass resistance. Because we couldn't operate through their corrupt governments. Don't think if the UN could truly bring about World peace they would have done it already?

The American Revolution arguably would not have succeeded without the help of the French. It was clear that the majority of the people in Libya wanted to overthrow Gadaffi. However, there was no way they could have pulled it off because they had virtually nothing capable of fighting Gadaffi's tanks and aircraft. They needed help not because it was not a popular revolution but because they did not have the weaponry to fight Gadaffi.
And they are doing the right thing.

What he says is true there was no way that America could have pulled off the revolution without the help of France, Spain, and Prussia. So remember that.

Exactly. Same thing goes for Libya. And just like in America, in Libya the majority of the people backed the revolution.

Which is why Gaddafi had to hire so many Mercannarys to save him.

But the entire war lasted 8 months one week and three days.

I'm getting tired about debating the same issue over and over again. Everyone here has made a good point and if you take a look at both sides of the arguments here you should essentially find a balanced answer to what has happened in Libya. When I get back from school I'll post something else related to Libya to try and further encourage intelligent debate between us. Hopefully we can get past 200 pages.

And the answer is the UN was completely right in doing what they did and it was NOT illegal. =P

First off I'd like to say that I'm thoroughly disgusted with the treatment of Gadaffi by the rebels. He begged for mercy and received none. Despite his genuine oppression and tyranny, no one deserves to be tortured publicly and then executed, especially not a world leader. The level of barbarism displayed by his captors is unbelievable, and while they may have had many personal grievances against the man, nothing excuses their conduct. We are a civilized world and we should act accordingly, not like ravenous beasts.

As well, I am very disturbed with the kind of behavior that most people seem to have about the whole affair. Either they are indifferent (or just ignorant) or else thought "he got what was coming to him." That kind of response is something I'd expect from the internet, but not from your average honky. We're better than animals, people, so let's prove it.

One, it came from RT, two, RT's source was a certified crazy lady, and three, it came from RT.

No, we're not. You misuse the term brainwashing immensely.

    That's not brainwashing.

    That's not brainwashing.

As sirdust said, we're not brainwashed, we're affected by our experiences. Brainwashing would be a subliminal subversion of independent thought by some outside force, not persuasion or experience.

Clearly we're the ones blinded by propaganda here... Honestly though, this statement is just annoying and serves to do nothing but derail the conversation.

Genuinely curious, what would the word to describe those examples be?
I agree with you entirely on the first part of your post. Also, I don't take RT seriously. But they aren't really that different to most news-outlets, side from a different kind of Bias. I wasn't attempting to defend RT, or that story, but rather make a correction on what I felt was an implied statement.

In order, replacing the word brainwashing (not a proper noun, by the way) and its various forms in your post:

    1. influenced by their experiences
    2. experiences
    3. affected by their experiences
    4. persuaded
    5. important opinion forming experiences ([happen])
    6. (in which case you [developed]) your opinions from personal experience
    7. affected by personal experience
    8. affected by personal experience

Agree with Kalalification's extremely long post. The NTC should be absolutely ashamed at the actions of their fighters, and I'm more disgusted with them for allowing Gaddafi's body to be displayed like a slab of meat and to be publicly mocked instead of being buried with dignity than the manner of his killing, personally. Shame on them for condoning this behavior.

While I agree that the treatment of gaddafi is wrong, I think we should first consider what these rebels had been through before we try to judge them. 40 some years under his opressive rule, many friends and family dead, and months of civil war. Then the man responsible is at your feet begging for mercy that he himself denied so many others. I am not trying to justify the rebel's actions, I am simply saying that we should realistically consider what we would be capable of before trying to take the moral highground and pretend that we never do such a thing, because frankly, none of us know what we would do after going through that much shit.

I agree with Kali tough i understand where the NTC was coming from with killing Gaddafi as such since being human and under such regime as Gaddafi there not going to think rationally and there going to kill him, tough the NTC should be alot more ashamed of it because Gaddafi did in fact beg for his life.

I mean, we can't be naive about this. They hated Gaddafi and treated him accordingly. The US shot Bin Laden in the face, and then dumped his body into the ocean before anyone could look at it. They've just never played this proverbial 'show' before, and arn't smart enough to keep that kind of stuff under wraps.

Exactly. He had denied mercy to those civilians he massacred, and just about everyone else. If you were a rebel and let's say one of your family members was killed by this guy, and you have him begging for mercy at your feet, do you think you are going to give him any?
