Death To American Imperialism! Death To NATO!

I mean I think a democratically elected government would be a great gift, but I don't see it as America giving this to them. We'll see how things pan out, especially in relation to the other revolutions going on in the region.

As for DU munitions, America isn't the only country using them. I obviously can't justify the humanitarian aspect of their use and if it was up to me we wouldn't still be using them. However I will note that it would be highly unlikely for DU rounds to come into play as pretty much the only stuff we still use them for are Bradley's and seeing as we aren't using a ground force I don't see a delivery mechanism in place for them.

I'm even more disappointed in all of you now. This isn't even a question, it's an open and shut case.
Why did NATO intervene? WE NEED OIL. So we sped up the revolution a little. Now the Nationalists have no tanks, aircraft, anti-air, basically nothing besides basic munitions and infantry.
So I'd give Libya 2 weeks before it starts exporting oil again. Then everyone leaves and the status quo resumes. Nothing special is going to happen, it's just about oil again. Seriously, a revolution vs Iraq? That's insulting. They aren't even about the same topic, nor are they on the same CONTINENT.
PLEASE watch the news before you make dumb assumptions everyone, it's pointless and it wastes time. As for anything else you could possibly say, no. My point is better expressed and coming from a more intelligent base. Go watch youtube videos of that cat you like so much now.

As far as anyone is concerned, this thread is closed. It's not turning into Iraq, question answered. Seriously. Go now.

Again Russia and China Stand By And Watch!

    Seriously? This is absurd.
1.What would you have them do?
    2.Why?
    3.How would they justify it?
4.How does anything in Africa affect them?
    5.WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING!?!?!?

There are intelligent arguments that can be made to suggest Libya can turn into the next Iraq. Us politicians are putting forth their arguments at this very moment, and just because you don't want to see them or disagree with them doesn't mean you can dismiss them or question the intelligence of people on here.

I completely agree with (most) of what you said but that doesn't give me the right to bash people for disagreeing with me.

Also I don't think it's about oil. Looking at the nations heading this (France/US), they don't import significant quantities of oil from Libya so they don't stand to gain or loose by having greater oil access in Libya. I really see this as a human rights issue, but that isn't really at the heart of the question in this thread.

Reason why they didn't veto it - Libya no longer supplies oil to the west. That means that Russia supply more of it which means more money for them. China wouldn't have vetoed it because it is more profitable for them to let it go ahead. In case you have never realised it, money makes the world go round.

Doesn't superior intelligence mean anything? Also, the congress's arguments are futile and just not smart.

Can't America drag NATO into this? Who says France and the UK didn't join out of pressure from America? I mean, blood diamonds, Ethiopia and Eritrea, just tons of conflict in Africa and we only intervene in Lybia.
Why? Do you live in America? Gas prices are freaking ridiculous. Connecticut is like $3.80 a gallon! Congress finally responded to the will of the people. They hurried the process along.
(Even if we don't get a large part of our oil from Lybia, the government can pretend we do, and we really do, to pacify the populous. But really, with Egypt and now Lybia, America needs all the oil it can get. You can't deny that.)

Fact is America got dragged into this by a combination of NATO and popular support. Obama didn't get invovled into after France had essentialy called for unilateral action.

And have you ever lived in Europe?

And I can make a very good bet gas prices haven't gone down since 2005....

I was raised by those people. Funny that I became a far left (for American politics, anyway) atheist.

Gas is more expensive in Europe... Period... I can take it from any source you want from any time period you want. They have a Value Added Tax on gas that has them paying much more for gas.

Bringing Socrates into this, think of the aligory of the cave. If you dont know what it is then look it up. I think Che should explore other options/points of view before comming back. I tried to look into the eyes of Gadafi and his supporters and at least I can say I do not like what I saw out of them. You are a result of exploring other options. It funny, my grandmother blamed bad weather on Soviet Rockets and the communist mennace was always after us. I am fairly left wing, still hate communists, love soscialism.

    Here's the thing Che:

We recognize the "imperialist" implications of this intervention. France and Britain need to keep their supply flowing and America's looking to cash in on some good PR. Oh, and prevent OPEC screwing with prices to compensate for a damaged Libya. Why is imperialism so bad? It's brought higher standards of living for nearly everyone in the Western world. And since we have to be much more accountable these days, I don't think a puppet dictatorship will be our method of control.

There is a rather clear difference between Bahrain and Libya. Bahrain is not engaged in a full civil war. That said, the UN wouldn't be able to justify intervention anyways, so what difference does it make?

The real traitor was Lenin, who murdered the "Mensheviks," the actual majority. Either way it worked out in the end.

I never got why they were called Mensheviks when they had the majority.
Fun Fact- Apparently, chrome doesn't recognize russian words. Its first suggestion as to the correct spelling was menservants.
