It's funny because no one has advocated this. Even Lenin Cat would prefer he be kept out of society.

Or you could just lock him it up. It accomplishes the same thing except it doesn't involve revenge killing.

You may contend that the death penalty is inherently immoral because governments should never take human life, no matter what the provocation. But that is an article of faith, not of fact, just like the opposite position held by myself... The death penalty honors human dignity by treating the defendant as a free moral actor able to control his own destiny for good or for ill; it does not treat him as an animal with no moral sense, and thus subject even to butchery to satiate human gluttony. Moreover, capital punishment celebrates the dignity of the humans whose lives were ended by the defendant's predation.

Hear that everyone? That's the sound of someone who no longer has an argument and is repeating himself.

If we were to change a few of those words it would sound vary similar to what Che says when he ends up in the same position.

That's all fine and dandy until we start wishing for revenge and unnecessary suffering.

Holy shit. One hundred pages. This topic shows the progression of the whole war. We started with tactics and predictions, and now we have moved into the best way to punish Gaddafi. Pretty interesting stuff.

Your attempting to justify the torture and slaughter of another human being, which is something Che does all the time.

The likes of House and Sly have not been advocating any type of justice, they have been advocating revenge. They want death in the most brutal manor possible, a sort of eye for an eye mentality.

I suggest you read a few pages back.

What the hell does punishment achieve?

HE KILLED PEOPLE, LETS MAKE HIS LIFE HORRIBLE!! WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT ACHIEVE?

Put him under house arrest, hes obviously not safe to have in society, but anything beyond protecting society, caring for the victims, and rehabilitating(if possible, and I doubt it is in this case) criminals, is pointless.

While not totaly wrong, i disagree. there is no dignity to be gained for anybody in the death of a person. No matter the cause. The dignity of a victim comes from the determination of wrong doing by a court. That the action against the victim are against the wishes of society and that what ever happened to him was unrightous and a crime. The punishment no matter how severe will not restore the dignity of a victime no matter what.

An agreeable position, however I would prefer an institution to a house.

I have never and will never advocate brutal murder, this is for the protection of society, lethal injection perhaps.
The death penalty serves three functions. First, for some crimes any lesser punishment is inadequate as a matter of basic justice... Second, an executed death sentence absolutely guarantees the killer will never kill again. A life sentence does not. There are many cases of people killed by murderers who were paroled, escaped, killed within prison, or who arranged murders from within the prison... Third, I believe that an effective, enforced death penalty deters some murders
