But what if he thought he was doing what was right for the people even though he was doing the wrong thing? The point I am trying to get across is, I think he believed he was doing what was right for France. He was insane in my opinion, but not corrupt.

He was corrupt, there is no need to kill 20,000 + people in any circumstance.

Just because he killed them does not mean he did it because he was corrupt. I agree with you that he was clearly wrong and that there was no need for it. But the point I am trying to make is that he believed it was in France's best interest. That doesn't make him corrupt, just misguided.

I don't think he became obsessed with power as much as he became paranoid.

Robespierre was an idealist who didn't have the political skill to rule the new republic of France. Wasn't necesscarily a bad person but more just a man who descended into his fanatiscm as the revolution continued to grow more and more chaotic

He was a loyal man at heart, and wanted to advance both France and democratic principles, but in the end became to corrupt and looked out only for himself.

He was a corrupted man, power made him believe himself to be of higher importance and he became paranoid, he saw enemies of the revolution everywhere and had them all killed at the guillotine. He created a police state essentially. He became a despot, that which he had opposed. By the time he died, thousand were dead, the most influential leaders of the revolution were dead ( Jacobin). He left France in Chaos but left the perfect opportunity a young officer in the French army to take power.

That's like calling the Inquisition corrupt. No, he did what he thought he needed to do. He was wrong, but that doesn't mean he was corrupt.
