Here I am just interested to hear everyones opinions on what the next total war game could be. I think they should make Renassaince total war. This could take place from maybe 1400-1700, could have some interesting features, focus on the start of European colonization, and have a more detailed Europe Map. Well, tell me what you think!
the next game is shogun 2 (there is no tongue smiley?) anyway, what the TW series needs to do is steer clear of gun powder and huge maps that they cant fill. First, they need to stay away from gunpowder because it hasn't been done right and its actually pretty boring. i say it hasn't been done right because in empire they had all of the tacticle drills which was good, but if one man was out of position the unit could not fire. With the awful pathfinding, that happened alot. Also in napoleon they got rid of those, but they also gave infantry bolt rifles and they shoot way to fast. But even if they could get gun units to work right, it would still be boring to just line your troops up, and watch them shoot at the other guys. Also, the limit of regions seems to be constant at around ~200, which is not bad, except that vast expanses of land fall into one region. Prime examples from empire would be france and spain, which got one city each, which was ridiculous. In napoleon they fixed that by getting rid of the americas, india, and the middle east and zooming in the map. Its not like a map of a huge expanse of land wont work (as shown by the Stainless Steel mod) but several contents is currently too much and i would expect lots of lag in anything but high end machines if they put so much land in. Anyway, my opinion is that TW should actually stay away from europe, and make another game in asia or the americas of even africa. i would personally love a mongel total war, if only because the horse based armies would radically change game play. rome 2 would also be a decent choice though.
i like empr guy's comment, and it totally makes sense maybe something to do with Egypt, a huge empire, but the creators would have a hard time with making the weapons right also, maybe a colonies total war cause I really want to see a game focused on only the americas or possibly even something with the americas and Africas ivory coast thrown in there? I dont know but I do actually think Egypt would be a good idea
Hmm my last post didn't work for some reason. I agree with empr guy, I think a Mongol Total War would be awesome. I think a Total War game set in China would be great, a lot of wars they could use, the Chinese were really advanced in warfare so you could have interesting units, lot of potential. Rome 2 would still be good for me though since I love ancient Greece.
I disagree with Empr Guy I think the game worked superbly, its had its minor glitches, but which game didn't and I didn't find it boring at all the sea battles were clever and you had to use cunning and wit to out think your opponant and surround them, likewise for the battles on dry land, if you can find a definsible spot and protect your flanks, you can pretty much decimate everyone. Its like a sophisticated game of chess.
Would be great if the did a remake of the old Rome games, I guess they kinda dropped a little hint when they started to make Shogun 2. Maybe this could lead to something a little bigger. But most people seem to think it'll be one from World War 1.
I would love to see a World War 1 Total War, but it would be very hard to make, but i think the Total War team would pull it off, and make it extraordinary fun and make it balanced, but they would have to put a lot of troops on the field. Loads of soldiers are going to get mowed down by MG and choked on by Gas. EPIC IT WOULD BE!
I hope they don't go any more modern than Empire and Napoleon, a WW Total War just wouldn't work imo. Low tech gun units work but I don't see something like WW2 working for the Total War style.
Completely agree with you tthere, i dont think gunpowder ruined anything. BTW it seems like im always agreeing with you, lol
a WW1:TW could work because for most of the war armies still operated as companies. You didn't see small platoons and squads working independently until WW2.
They eill make a rome total war. It should be starting in 509 BC and include the etruscans, samnites, brutian tribes, independent galliac tribes, and all the various city states tht can unite if they choose for a short period of time to fight a commmon enemy like Pyyrhus of Epirus did with the greek city-states on southern italy to defeat the romans. the map shouls include Gaus, Italy, Spain, Greece, Macedonia, and mmost of Turke and North Africa. An expansion to the game should be focused around the ancient egyptian times
I can't see any TW game having guns that aren't single shot therefore I can't see any of the wars of 'Modern' era history. Rome 2 would be good, I still think that the original is the best I have played, closely followed by Napolean. I think they just have to ramp up the AI and actually make it a challenge in terms of the battles because there are always stupid glitches that makes the AI tactics baffling. Maybe a ladder for multiplayer as well.
U rright rome total war just stuck to all total war gamers. I like to play the mods to make it more realistic, but for some reason, i cant find them to be as fun as the vanilla version. Also, I enjoy it more than lets say... Empire and especially medieval which is good but doesnt stand up to it toe to toe. the fans would be in a riot if CA didnt make a rome 2 total war or at least one in tht time period. Also, they have to fix the mu;ltiplayer glitches especially with the CD key and improve battle AI
Eh, I don't think too modern would work. How would the units work? I mean, bands of 40 guys don't run around in a clusterfuck anymore.
