    Occupy the London Stock Exchange!

I really doubt the former. Even the CCP has pushed back the Communist agenda for the time being.

As for joining the PRC... that has nothing to do with the occupation of the Taipeioi Stock Exchange. The matter of Taiwanese 'independence' is MUCH bigger. The PRC DOES have its own stock exchanges you know... I doubt that the CCP would stand to have them occupied.

I would rather have the Taiwanese govern the mainland as you know they respect human rights.

I'm actually hoping the CCP will roll back some elements of their market reform. I feel it's gone a bit too far now. It would be better for the average person I think.

Like I said before, as long as the people are content, it matters not to me who or what is in government. For the time being, it doesn't look like the Chinese people are up in arms against the CCP.

When was the last time a soldier got strung out for running over a civilian in China? Last I checked, that guy climbed onto the tank when it tried to move around him.

And the argument makes no sense. If the people REALLY wanted democracy, they would fight for it. They by no means need foreign assistance. There are over one billion civilians in China. There are 5 million military personnel [half active, half reserve] and approximately 76 million CCP members [80 by their count, 76 by the CIA World Factbook]. If the majority decided to overthrow the government, there wouldn't even be enough bullets in reserve to kill them all. How many democratic supporters are there? Enough to rival the CCP in a democratic election? I don't think so...

Note: Yes, the bullet thing is over-exaggerated, but the point still stands.

Well we'll never find out who the people actually want until there are free and transparent elections.

    Occupy the London Stock Exchange!

Tell that to every country that ever had a revolution in the name of democracy. No free and transparent elections there, just war and then free and transparent elections. For some at least.

And the 'concensus of the people' idea is misleading. The ones who care will vote in the polls and elections. Those who don't or have not confidence in the system will remain silent and uncounted. Look at the U.S. Only slightly over half of the country voted in the 2008 Presidencial Election.
In China's case, we have to take the inaction as votes of contentment since they are neither supporting nor opposing the ruling party or the democractic parties.

Maybe we should have an independent Chinese politics thread, instead of hijacking this thread.

    Occupy Toronto

    Oh, yes, it's happening.

As a capital city in one of the most largest, multi-cultural countries, we all knew it was coming.

feel free to search for news happenings and quotes from government officials about the protests.

As for what I see, not much, right now there's not alot going on, I saw small groups of police on bicycles and a few Toronto police cruisers around the streets but nothing other than that so I just went back home.

The CBC was reporting on this and they said the protesters had been given lawyers and medical personnel. In Canada we are nice to protesters instead of beating them like in America.

Good job Canada, good job Toronto. It wasn't a surprise that the occupation of Wall Street would spread to places all across Canada. The Canadian police force sounds a lot like ours over here in the United Kingdom. Thus far there's really no major trouble occurred yet in the occupation of London, everyone is generally settling down quite well, and the protesters are engaging in conversations with British police force.

The main thing that stunned me about this occupation is how these well organized occupations are fairing out. Pitching up tents, setting up kitchens, so anyone in the occupation can cook their own food with no charge. Just all round good experience in the end, but obviously i'm not neglecting the importance to it, but it has certainly stunned me over the course of weeks that's for sure.
